I thought Bobby kissing Pamela was funny and I loved her reaction.

Just read this, I felt bad for Karen at Pamela's party, when Ricky seemed to be giving Pam more attention. Lisa should also have made Karen buy something a bit more substantive. I would have felt cheap if that was my kid. Loved the wedding, very cute!

I just reread this on Sunday thanks to someone on LJ who e-booked it (and a bunch of other LS books). I still love it as much as I did when I first read it. I liked the chapter when Karen and Hannie were planning the wedding and making paper flowers for everyone to stick to their coats. Also liked how Karen and Ricky linked arms and walked slowly back inside school while everyone else ran. It was so cute when Ricky kissed Karen's cheek. If there'd been a wedding like that on the playground when I was in grade school, no boy in their right mind would kiss the girl; it would be too gross ;D.

^ Same here! I thought it was cute, though A couple kids in my class got 'married' in Kindergarten, during recess ;D I'm pretty sure they didn't kiss though!

Man, our grade school was no fun. No one ever wanted to get married and have a wedding at recess. When I was in 2nd grade, boys were considered yucky ;D.

No one ever wanted to get married in my experience either. When I read LS I was like, "first Hannie, then Karen, how come none of my friends express any desire to get pretend-married?" ;D

What i find really funny is that all the parents were going along with it- you know they all had to know about it because all the kids were going to school in their dress clothes!

^I think that is in Karen's Haircut. I just read it and Hannie is in her mother's wedding dress outside her house, getting married to Scott. I want to read this one! It is at the flea market for 6 dollars! For some reason, I haven't been able to get myself to buy it.

If you go to the trouble of saving your wedding dress, is it really something you let your kid play with outside? My mom's dress was some early 70s awfulness that she got rid of before I can remember, but if it had been around I don't think I'd have been allowed to play with it. No playground weddings happened at my school. A boy in third grade did tell me I was going to have his babies. He's probably in jail now.

I wore my mom's dress for halloween when I was in 4th grade. I was a zombie princess bride. Don't ask. But I have since outgrown that dress, i'm about 3 inches taller and several bust sizes larger -- it won't even get close to zipping up. So it's not like I would have ever worn that lacy monstrosity of a dress anyway.
