Who else has read this? ;D Karen becomes addicted to 900 numbers (for jokes) and then finds out that it those numbers cost money. When she realizes that she's spent almost $50, she decides to hide the phone bill from Watson until she can pay him back. Unfortunately for her that doesn't work, as the phone company shuts off their service and Karen confesses that she hid the bills. But she redeems herself when she saves the day when Kristy has an accident while babysitting Karen and Emily Michelle and has to call 911. And she wins a radio contest ($111 I believe) so she is able to pay Watson back and have some money left over!

I've read and actually like it (though I know Karen was wrong with a lot of the things she did at the beginning) I know she gets really lucky with winning the contest but didn't mind that. I loved the way she handled the situation with Kristy - very calm and rational. Reminds me of how I used to love dealing with emergencies and handled them like that as a kid. (now I tend to freak ;D) As for the 900 #s, I've known a few little kids who that happened to so I can relate to that, too. Definitely not my favorite Karen book but I do really enjoy the end (even the luck of winning the contest - gives me hope, I guess ;D)

No kidding.
One time I had a saturday detention that I actually had to serve, and my friend and I snuck into an empty office and called 900 numbers.

I love when Watson and Elizabeth walk in on Karen turning over the hour glass they had given her to time her calls. Busted! ;D

I read this one a few years ago. Not one of my favorites because I'm not really much of a phone person but it was still pretty good. I liked how Karen was so brave and called 911 when Kristy cut her hand on the glass door. If I'd been in that situation, I would've done the same thing, I just would've been more scared ;D. I also like when she wins the contest . I got a laugh out of the cover, when Karen's on the phone with this smile on her face and Kristy and Watson are standing behind her, hands on their hips frowning at her and the caption beneath it says "Karen, get off that phone!" They both look like steam is going to come out of their ears or something lol ;D.

This wasn't one of my favorite LS books but I enjoyed it. I also thought the cover was kind of funny with Kristy and Watson.

^ I had forgotten about this cover. ;D The picture is great and the line always makes me laugh. When I see my book sitting out and read it, I get it stuck in my head, even. ;D

There was some discussion on another thread about whether Karen would make a good sitter when she got older, and I could see her being a very level-headed sitter. She took great care of Emily when Kristy needed help. She's impulsive, but when it comes to emergencies she has good instincts.
The jokes were awesome. "What do you call a fish with two knees?" "A two-knee fish." OMG.
Watson and Elizabeth should have taken her phone privileges away altogether in the beginning when Karen was tying up the line so much. They are so lenient with her.

I haven't read this one so until I do I'm going to pretend that Karen called that certain kind of 900 number that little girls shouldn't. You know the ones. I think this was a plot on Full House too. (Michelle calling a joke line, not a porn line.) I swear everything Karen Brewer did, Michelle Tanner did too.

That's exactly what Karen did. I find Michelle Tanner to be much more annoying than Karen, though.

Auugh I immediately thought of that Full House plot too. I think Danny was way more of a pushover than Watson ever was.
