I don't think I've read this book before, but I remember the cover and the way Kristy and Watson were standing behind Karen with their arms crossed frowning.

I just read this one while standing in a Doillar Bookstore today. What was a little confusing to me was Kristy's accident. What exactly happened? Did she literally WALK into a sliding glass door (that she thought was a screen) or did she simply punch her hand through it somehow? Also why wouldn't she have known/seen the difference? I remember hearing from my late Grandmother years ago how the husband of a friend of hers, who was then in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's literally walked through a glass door.. ...but for someone only 13 years old to do that? Just seemed odd. ITA, about how weird it was for Watson not to have noticed something was up with the phone. Also, wouldn't the phone company, knowing what a prominent citizen Watson Brewer is, think something was amiss and call him? Not sure how I feel about Karen winning the $111. ETA: years later, still don't but glad she did

^ Yeah I got really confused by Kristy's accident as well. The way it was described by Karen was that there was this loud crash and then Kristy was on the ground with a bloody hand, surrounded by shattered glass. Yet I never understood how it happened. If she did walk into the door, thinking it was a screen or something else, how could that impact have cut up her hand like that? Wouldn't she just then bump into the door because the glass was strong? Idk, I guess this is one of those BSC mysteries that we'll never find the answer to ;D.

I was at a party once where a guy gave himself a bloody nose by walking into a sliding door that he thought was open. The door was totally fine. Maybe if Kristy tripped and fell into the door then she could have broken it, but just bumping into it shouldn't have broken it and chopped her hand up.

My friend was pushed through the glass of a storm door. Her arm has a huge scar.

Lol, SweetValleygirl, you are probably right about it being another unsolved bsc mystery.
Does anyone have the book and could scan just that pargraph?

here is the part about Kristy and the door:
“Come, Emily,” I said. “I will go inside, too.”
I followed Kristy. Emily followed me. Kristy turned to see if we were behind her. While she was facing us she reached out and pushing in the door.
First I heard a crash. Then I heard Kristy scream in pain. The next thing I knew, she was lying flat on the ground.
“Kristy!” I called.
Emily started crying. There was a lot of blood on Kristy’s hand. There were slivers of glass all over the place. Kristy had stopped screaming and was whimpering.

So Kristy had super powers and basically pushed her hand through the glass...

I sure sounds like that's what she did to me, too, Sparklymouse. So very, very odd!

I think I'd probably be in tears, not just whimpering. But as a kid, this was one of my favorite LS books.

Sometimes glass just goes weak and it happens, like a freak accident. Maybe that's what happened?

If this had happened to me, I would've screamed so loud that the whole neighborhood would've heard me ;D.

Me, three with the screaming reaction. I am still not buying that Kristy did not know the door was glass instead of a screen! Unless Watson had it installed that day or very recently and didn't tell her or Kristy forgot...?
