I just reread and really enjoyed, great summery book that takes place in very early spring. From the dates given, Watson's birthday was on Saturday, March 16th. This book came out in 1996. I just checked and it was cool to discover that was a true 1996 day. Reminds me of how in KGI, Ann also had the days/dates matched up. The Caribbean Sea sounded beautifully blue and so peaceful. I was intrigued that the Island Club Kids were able to go snorkeling by wading not all that far out into the water, sounded really cool and something I'd enjoy. Also reminded me of the triplets in Baby-sitters on Board. Emily the fish was so cute, love how in the LS books she has a much more character. I also liked how Watson went sailing with Sam and Charlie. I would have enjoyed reading about the three of them spending time together. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Elizabeth came into Karen's hotel room Saturday morning and Karen asked her what to wear for her dad's birthday dinner. Elizabeth had totally forgotten Watson's birthday and the two of them spent some time making secret birthday plans. Elizabeth is another character, along with Nannie, a lot of the time, who I tend to much prefer in the LS than BSC so nice to read that scene.

Sorry for this double post, I did reread last night and apparently (I did not check the dates again) it was Watson's birthday so lol good timing. I needed a calm upbeat book and this was it. I had forgotten about Pekita the lamb who drinks orange soda. Yes she did remind me of Elvira the goat but since I will always think of my dog Champ as a little lamb (white fur) Pekita was more endearing to me though I may read about Elvira for Spring soon anyway. I also though the cave with the different types of windows looking out sounded awesome. This is on page 33. Karen tells us some of the windows where "a whale, a pony, and a cat." I would enjoy that type of fun, non intensely climbing/physical activity cave exploration. A cute springy and summery story.
One question though I had this time around Karen tells Sandy she has one brother (Andrew) and one sister (Emily) in the Dolphin Club (for younger kids--Karen is in the Island Club). Karen needed to make them each a welcome visor. Sandy ends up making Andrew's. Why didn't David Michael? And I was a little disappointed we never got to read anything much about him at the Island Club or of course Andrew and Emily at their Dolphin one. I was glad Emily was wanting to do that and loved when on the ride to the hotel she waved to the little girls sitting on her porch, making a friend. We rarely get to hear from Andrew and Emily, certainly not without any of the others and this would have been a fun way to include them in a different way.

The clubs sounded like day care to me. If it's one thing I really hate it's "organised fun".

I don’t really care for these vacation stories. It always bugs me how the family spends so little time together. I agree with Livvy that the kid groups were really just daycares. I loved Nannie the golfer! Nobody even knew that she could golf when she entered the tournament. The stupid host lady talked down to her like she was a little kid. “I’m sure you’ll be great but remember that some people here golf all the time. It’ll be hard to beat them.” Nannie just said she’d work harder than them. Then she won, and the host guy was like “are you surprised that you won?!” Nannie “Nope.” Haha, go Nannie! I’m wondering how much orange soda that goat got per day. It probably weighed 200 pounds and had no teeth, poor thing. We used to have a Chester’s Chicken in town! It was in a gas station, lol. I liked the spice levels to pick from. I am definitely a peace-and-quiet girl. The little kids and Elizabeth got the mild, Watson and Kristy got medium, and Charlie, Sam, and Nannie got the extra hot. Go Nannie again! I’m not sure what the “Cool Cat Friends” skit was about, but I can’t believe that Kristy didn’t want to wear a cat mask and tail and make a fool of herself. I liked that it took Karen and Sandy 3 months to write to each other. I wish that she would never hear from some of these vacation friends again because that’s how it really goes.
