Ah Karen. It did not surprise me one bit she changed her opinion so quickly! I remember reading this one as a kid.

I liked this one quite a lot then, too.

Yup, I like this one a lot too. I always want to grow my own vegetable garden after reading about Granny's. I like when she teaches Karen to knit, and when Karen is so excited about buying a pair of overalls.

Of course, when I first read this, I think I had Nebraska mentally misplaced as farther west than it is.

Meh, I thought this one was really boring. The whole farm thing didn't thrill me all that much and kind of reminded me of freaking Green Acres. Not one of my favorites, I'm afraid .

I thought the radish flower making tool was cool!

This was the first LS book I ever read. I always loved it and thought it was cute.

I wonder if the business about "___to K-T Vegetables" was an idea Karen got from the Wall Drug signs....

I thought a lot of the farm stuff was cute (what can I say, I'm a Montessori kid; I'm all about simple, tactile activities), and I liked the bored games, because I used to make them up, too.
The thing that drove me crazy, though, was that Lisa (or Seth) didn't check on Karen's packing. I wouldn't necessarily trust a seven-year-old to remember underwear, let alone pick out appropriate clothes for some place she's never been.

^Do we actually know that they didn't check, or might they have checked sometime that isn't mentioned in the story? Karen re-packs some at the end of chapter 1, so it's quite possible that she gets some supervision.

this one was awesome! i love how Karen acts like a snob. its funny whenever Karen does something stupid without realizing it. It makes her cute. XD what i thought was hysterical, was the bit where she starts to talk to the the people on the plane that are sitting next to her, and she even draws them pictures and gives it to them. XD i wonder what the people do with the pictures afterwards? would they save them or just chuck them in the nearest bin at that airport?
i'd feel sad if they chucked Karen's drawing, which is probably what one probably would most likely do.

I really need to find my copy of this one, because I haven't read it in years. It was one of my favourites, along with Karen's Wish. I don't know why I liked it so much, but I did. I'm having a hard time remembering much about it, though. I think I'm getting it confused with Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic and MA's Portrait.
