The thing that drove me crazy, though, was that Lisa (or Seth) didn't check on Karen's packing. I wouldn't necessarily trust a seven-year-old to remember underwear, let alone pick out appropriate clothes for some place she's never been. That bugged me too, in that book and many others where she goes on vacation. Until I was about 10 or 11 whenever we went on vacation, my mom would pack for me so that I would have the right amount of stuff with me. So whenever I read about Karen packing her own stuff for a trip, it was odd for me .

Me too. My mom always packed for me, so when I was little I couldn't help but wonder why Lisa never seemed to help Karen with her packing.

I always packed for myself, but someone always gave me a checklist of what to bring. (And I always crammed whatever else I wanted in)

I don't remember when I first started packing for myself, but I wasn't little!

I'm about to start this one and I noticed the dedication in the beginning says "This book is for Carrie Danziger, who is a little sister and a big sister." Aw. I'm sure that's a relative of Paula's. It made me wonder who did the dedications when there was one in a ghostwritten book. Did Ann dedicate someone else's work to the people of her choice, or did the ghostwriters dedicate stuff that written in someone else's name? It's a weird situation either way.

I always assumed Ann did all the dedicating, even if she didn't write the book. I guess because I thought she outlined all the plots anyway and they were "her" stories, basically.

Ok, finished it this morning. I agree about the packing. Little warning bells should have gone off in Lisa's head when Karen got on the plane in one of her best party dresses. Maybe Lisa was naive since these were Seth's parents and Lisa had probably never been there either? (Not that she's stupid. I'm sure she knew what farm life was about.)
The fun bag Seth made for Karen sounded sweet. You can tell he really thought of Karen and Andrew as his own kids.
I cringed for that poor man who had to sit next to Karen on the plane ride home. At least he got to get off the plane first.

The title of this one always kind of bugged me, since it's not like the whole book was about being on a plane. I'll have to reread it soon, though. It sounds like fun. Especially if Karen's grandmother taught her how to knit... I don't remember that part!

In the late 80s, people still dressed up (at least somewhat) to fly, so it might not have been such a red flag to Lisa as you'd think.

I loved the description of everything in the book, especially all the stuff about food, gardening, and about knitting and making the potato print paper.
I thought Karen was kind of annoying on the plane though, talking to strangers, signing pictures for passengers and all, but I guess it is kind of cute.

I haven't read this in a while, but it was not one of my favorites. Seth's Parents are really nice people.

Another thing never mentioned again, Karen's knowing how to knit.
