Karen doesn't seem like a knitter. It seems too monotonous to hold her interest for long.

Another thing never mentioned again, Karen's knowing how to knit. She knits again in the book where Ms. Colman has a baby, I believe.

She might not mention it but I can imagine her workign together with Nannie, or side-by-side with Nannie, at knitting.

I agree, Karen did act like a snob. On the flip side everything seemed so unfamilar and Karen was trying to get used to it. She did take things to the extreme though. I used to dislike this book when I was younger, but now I kind of like the plot line. Seth's parents are really nice people.
this one was awesome! i love how Karen acts like a snob. its funny whenever Karen does something stupid without realizing it. It makes her cute. XD what i thought was hysterical, was the bit where she starts to talk to the the people on the plane that are sitting next to her, and she even draws them pictures and gives it to them. XD i wonder what the people do with the pictures afterwards? would they save them or just chuck them in the nearest bin at that airport?
i'd feel sad if they chucked Karen's drawing, which is probably what one probably would most likely do.
In regards to Karen knitting, I remember her knitting with Nannie in a few other Little sister books. So I remember it being mentioned again.

Then she'd be ahead of the curve, when knitting started to catch back on among younger people in the last few years!

I remember in the early 90's, it was considered cool for young girls to knit too and I would see knitting kits at stores, so I saw it as normal, nothing special at the time. What did you guys think of the vegetable sale Karen and Tia had? I hvae a feeling Tia or maybe even her grandmother thought it was a waste of time since most people had their own gardens and farms anyway, but they let her have fun cause farm life was all new to her. In the beginning she may have been snobby but I think she adjusted rather quickly and made the best of her trip

When I was little I didn't catch on to the fact that Granny and Tia were humoring Karen. Then when I did I thought it was nice that they went along with it The house always reminded me of my grandparents' house, they lived on a ranch and didn't have air conditioning, so when we visited it was a shock to my system to go into the bedrooms and feel the warm air blowing in through the windows like Karen describes. That feeling of visiting an unfamiliar place when you're very young is captured well in this book. I crack up everytime I read the part where she's talking to Goosie (or Moosie) and says "I have to go feed a bunch of chickens. *pause* I hate Nebraska." What's with the naming pets after people, like seriously. Shannon, Emily Michelle...Karen named her adopted chick after her friend Tia. All the vegetable talk made me really hungry! I want a salad.

Karen also named her sick bird (her "pet" right before Emily Jr.) after the ice cream man. Sorta. He was Mr. Tastee and the bird was Magic Tastee. She would probably be gigundoly happy if someone named their pet after her.

The flights are such a time capsule. It's such a foriegn idea, now, that you could take people up to the gate!

I can't get over that poor guy that she talked to on the whole ride back to Connecticut. How long is a flight from Nebraska to Connecticut anyway?
