I was thinking extra of my own Grandparents last night so I chose this book to reread. I did enjoy it a little more this time around. Karen and Tia's games did sound like a lot of fun and creative, too. I would have loved helping them make it. I do wonder if Karen brought any of them back home with her? I also loved that Grandad gave Karen a ride and let her steer his tractor. Do we know what kind of dog Sheppy is? From his name I always think he's a sheep dog. I know Karen talks about going to meet him, hoping he will be a friend but we never read about her doing so.
What bothered me about this story was Granny and Grandad. Karen's Turkey Day is one of my very favorite LS books. So much love and fun shown in that story and I always enjoy reading about Granny and Grandad taking Karen and her NY diorama to school, they really loved their granddaughter. I didn't feel that same affection toward or from Granny and Grandad in Plane Trip. To me both came across, especially once they returned to the farm from the airport as rather cold. Neither of them showed Karen her room or like Stacey did for Charlotte in Mystery of Stoneybrook or for that matter, Andrew, Karen, Lisa and Seth all did for Granny and Grandad a few times, left any form of welcome for Karen in her room. Also, there was zero mention that the farmhouse was Seth's childhood home! I would hope Karen was shown his room and maybe before she left for NE, Seth himself told her a little about it and his life on the farm? I think that could have brought the two of them closer and all of you know I think Seth is just great.
On her first night at the farm, Karen talks with her little house family from inside a closet that she pretends is her phone booth. I finally remembered Kristy does the same thing (for privacy) in "Kristy's Mystery Admirer" when talking to Shannon about the mysterious notes she (K) has been getting. I love extra connections between BSC and LS.
