Dru had to understand why they thought she was a witch, always dressing in black, etc. Isn't that a little strange for a seven year old? Karen finally realises it is unlikely Mrs P is a witch... Until Dru tells her she might be

Dru didn't necessarily not want them to think she was a witch, though. When I was eight or nine, my friend and I told some neighborhood kids that we were real witches, and we'd pick random leaves off plants and do pretend spells, just because we liked the attention and we liked feeling special.

I thought it was good story. I thought it was weird Dru dressed like this, but I thought it was interesting. I liked how Dru said she wasn't a witch but her grandmother might be. When I was younger I thought that was cool.

Dru was probably playing with Karen's head some more. And Dru's hair on the cover is crazy!

The cover just lends all that much more credence to Dru's being a witch....

Exactly... I mean, why would an eight year old dress like that?

I can agree. The outfit and hair just screams witch.

I wonder if Dru was aware, or more to the point if Mrs. Porter was aware, of how convinced Karen was of her being a witch. I can imagine that Mrs. Porter might have deliberately played it up to play with Karen!

LOL that would be hilarious! I never really understood why dru dressed like that too... I mean, she's a kid, not some surly, emo punk teen.

That's true... I mean, Mrs P I can understand, Dru not so much I can't remember... she goes back home right? Or does she stay?

She doesn't show up much in other books so she must go back home.

Mrs. Porter and her grandaughter must really love the color black! Yeah, I can agree that the way Dru dresses and wears her hair screams witch.
