Why is nobody talking about these books? Personally, I loved them. They came out just as I was getting too old for the bsc so they were a way for me to not completely give them up. What did you all think?

Yeah, CD was great! I remember reading that first Dawn one and being shocked at Dawn saying "all hell broke loose." Heh. I wish there had been more books in the series, I think Ducky and Amalia only get like two or three books each. Sunny's diary when her mom dies is just the saddest thing over. Very well-written. I love how they face more realistic teenage issues like drinking, running away, anorexia, stereotypes, etc. I loved Maggie's songs and poems and Amalia's drawings in their journals. Sunny and Ducky's handwriting bugged me though. Sunny wrote in a weird, small all-caps style, and Ducky's was soo hard to read.

I agree that Sunny, Diary Three (when her mum dies) was brilliantly written. The best anti-smoking resource ever. And unlike most BSC and their spin offs, it was not preachy in the least.

Argh, I need to get these books! I've only got the first 8, then decided not to continue reading the BSC. So now I have to get the rest...

I've read and own a few....I liked that they were a little more adult, but not EVERY 13 year old has to deal with those issues. I didn't, and neither did most of my friends. I also don't get why all their friends were 16. When I was 13, hanging out with 16 year olds would have been weird.

13 year olds hanging out with 16 year olds is weird. They really should have made them at least a year older. It would have made their situations more believable.

But then how could Dawn still be the same age as the BSC!? Dawn aged a year while everyone else remained stuck in eighth grade
Why include the 16 yr olds at all? That was dumb. Although I could imagine Sunny whoring herself around with an older guy. But the fact that they were all just wholesome chums... not likely.

I just read Sunny, Diary Two, and Sunny does date older guys, but since she always only goes out with a guy once before deciding she's actually in luv with some other friend of his, she doesn't have much TIME for whoring around with them. I mean, she IS only 13. Maybe if she ever got to a second date with a guy, she'd sleep with him?

I know the BSC and all spin-offs had to be generally wholesome (even though the CD were slightly more "mature" and angsty) but Sunny really should've "experimented". She seemed the type. Maybe that's a bit too Degrassi for the BSC though.

Well, when I was 13 I was hanging out with 16 year olds. We lived in the same area, so it never really was an issue. When I was 11 I also had a 15 year old boyfriend (lol- like he knew how old I was)- when you look older, people tend to assume that you are older and don't necessarily question your age.
I really liked this series- I think the reality is that at 11-14, kids really ARE faced with these issues. If this wasn't the case, then 12 year olds wouldn't be getting pregnant, or admitted into eating disorder clinics. I kinda view CD as everything AMM wanted to include in the BSC books, but couldn't because they were pigeon-holed to a younger audience, and god forbid you get someone's knickers in a knot and expose their kids to *gasp* real life situations that they are likely to face in the future.

I think it really depends on your area and who your friends are that create the issues you're faced with. Most of the stuff they encountered in CD I wasn't faced with until later on in high school at 16 or 17. But it was still fun to read about at 11.

Oh I just read my first CD book (Dawn #1). I did like it, but wow. I was also shocked when Dawn said "all hell broke loose." Also when she was talking about another girls boobs and almost called Jill a b*tch!!

Was that near the end when Dawn was like "Don't be such a b--...I mean grow up." Was it "b--" or "bi--"? I always thought she was going to say "baby" but if I'm wrong and it's "bi--" then there's no question and that would be awesome since I think AMM wrote this one herself.

Ahh you know what it is just "b--" so she very well could've been about to say baby. That would make more sense. Derr I must've still been caught on the hell thing. I guess this is what happens when you read a children's book as an adult, you automatically assume what YOU'D be saying/thinking. lol. I feel better now though thinking she was going to say baby.

Haha, I hear ya...and now that you mentioned it I think I was more shocked at Dawn talking about the D cups of some girl than saying hell. Oh and with Maggie too! Geez, I hope she was subtle in her "observations".
