So who's your favorite CA character or whose books do you like best?
I like Maggie and Amalia the most because I can relate to them.
I don’t like Dawn so much in these series. She comes off as whiny and complains too much.
I find Ducky a bit strange. Ducky is supposedly a good friend, and I feel for his friend Alex, but how weird is it that he’s hanging around and chauffeuring 8th graders all over the place?

Probably still Dawn. She seems to the be only one who's looking around going "WHAT HAS BECOME OF US?". Or maybe Amalia. I think she was developed really well. And I can relate to her wanting to help people, but never really knowing how and constantly saying things wrong and all of that.
I like Ducky a lot, but I can't really take his first two diaries. The Alex storyline really brings me down.

So far, I've only read Dawn, Sunny, and Maggie and attempted Ducky. I don't really like any of them ;D but like Sunny more in her own book than I liked Dawn in hers. I guess Maggie would be my favorite. Don't care for Ducky at all in any of the books. I guess the CA Diaries just aren't for me. ;D

Maggie, because I relate to her probably more than any other character in the BSCverse.
I like Ducky, but I am really more of an Alex, I'm sorry to say.

I think I like Amalia best. She seems to be the most strong and resilient in a lot of ways, and in the general angst that makes up the California Diaries, I appreciate that even when she's dealing with problems, she maintains more of a sense of humor. I also like her relationships with her family.
I relate the most to Maggie, but frequently it's to the point where I get annoyed (or at least uncomfortable) because she's perpetuating my own forms of stupid (complete with poetry/lyrics that, really, aren't so deep) from my adolescence.
I have a soft spot for confused adolescent gay guys (and really, I thought Ducky was gay from, like, the first ten pages of his first book), but I find his persistent use of the second person and his handwriting kind of exhausting. (Although, now that I think about it, a fair number of the confused adolescent gay guys from my past were also sort of exhausting. . .)

I like them all in their own ways. I think I can relate mostly to Sunny and Maggie though. I defiantly went through some of the stuff they went through.

I like Amalia the best I think, followed by Sunny and Maggie.

Maybe this needs to go in the unpopular opinions thread, but I really like the use of second person in Ducky's diaries. It really actually helped me learn how to use second person, and when the right places to use it are in my own writing. (Though probably writing Ducky diary bits in fanfic helped me more than reading it, but I obviously wouldn't have written it in second person if the canon hadn't used it) I will use it a lot in terms of characters detaching from themselves, trying to look in on their own experiences from an outside point of view, for whatever reason.
Maggie's poems are rather lame. She's not subtle in her writing, now is she?

I don't think I can pick one favourite character. I relate the most to Sunny and Dawn's stories, but I'm very different from them and wouldn't necessarily act the same way in their situations. I would say as people I like Amalia the best but didn't relate to any of her story lines.
I also liked Ducky's use of the second person and got used to it very easily. It was something different and gave insight to his character.
