Not what I expected. But, it was refreshing and I got used to it. The drawings are black and white, definately cartoonish, not like the artist tried to draw real people. I was expecting real people, but I got used to these quickly. I guess after the drawings in the books, tv show, and movie I was expecting greater artistic work, but, I can see now how paneled black and white cartoons, a la the funny pages, would work. It definatley adds a fun element to the book.
The original dialogue is used. There is one part were the girls say how long their parents have been married. I don't remember that being in the first book, but I haven't read the orignal in awhile.
Stacey: 15 years Claudia: 20 years
Instead of "sheep are in" it was changed to "rainbows are in." Which I guess is more appealing to today's kids than sheep. I'm not sure how many of us were into wearing barn yard animals at 12 anyway.
All in all I can't wait for the Truth About Stacey to come out this fall!
BTW: I got it at my local bookstore.

where did you find it? I mean, is it in the graphic novels section or is it in somewhere else? I looked at one of my bookstores but didn't see it.

It was in the children's section next to the series favorite/series books. Near Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys in Barnes & Noble.

Cool, sugarmonkey! I've been hearing a lot about this and will be sure to check it out soon.
Here's a letter from Ann on her website about the graphic novel in case anyone's interested:

Oh, that letter is cool! But shouldn't the next book in the series be Claudia and the Phantom Phone Caller? Or has that book already been done? Or are they skipping it/doing it out of order? None of the Australian bookshops have it on their websites At least, not when I checked a couple of weeks ago. I really want this book!

I saw it again yesterday (Barnes and Noble). Beside it was a hard cover Little Sister book (#1) and Dawn and the Impossible three (not the original cover the updated one). Maybe their testing the waters to see if the BSC will be popular again?

I hope they're testing the waters! I miss seeing BSC books in bookstores. I hope they do one on "Logan Likes Mary Anne!" becaue that would be fun to see illustrated. Especially the Jackie parts and the shoe almost hitting Mr. Kingston in the head.

Hey, Jen, most of the bigger bookstores here should be able to get the book in for you if you ask them. They can look them up on their computer systems and order them in from overseas. Just give them the name of the book and the ISBN number (which is 0439812415) Dymocks can usually get books from the US in about a fortnight, and it probbaly won;t cost you mroe than $15. (Can you tell I've done this a few times ) Good luck

Ooh, really?? I went and asked at Dymocks, with just the title, and they couldn't find anything on the computers. I'll go to them with the ISBN number next time. Thanks!!

I got my copy shipped from Amazon about a month ago. It's great. I really like the artist's (Raina someting) interpretation, and her 'cartooning' perfectly complements, imo, Ann's writing style.
Some of my favorite panels include Kristy's dog-sitting job, the introduction of Morbidda Destiny and the first BSC meeting.
I read somewhere that she is only signed on to do three more--one of each of the original four BSC sitters. So, it's Kristy's Great Idea, The Truth about Stacey (i'm looking forward to how Raina illustrates Laine and the members of the Baby Sitters Agency), and any guesses on Mary Anne or Claudia? I'm guessing either Mary Anne Saves the Day or Logan Likes Mary Anne for MA, and Claudia and the Mean Janine for Claud.
ETA: Does anyone know how well this book is selling? I don't know where I could view the sales of a book other than the New York Times list, but I doubt this will be on that.

I finally got this book yesterday - would have been earlier but the bookstore moved and didn't unpack their kids' books for a couple of days. I was begginning to think I'd have to get it off Amazon or something, so I was stoked they got it in. Absolutely loved it, even though I'm not a fan of graphic novels. I find it hard to follow stories like that, but I guess cos I already knew the plot I didn't have to worry about that! The only two things I can think of that I wasn't delighted with were the "Rainbows are in" and how Watson looked. But that's just cos I always imagined him being greyer and fatter. Can't wait for the Truth About Stacey! (Hope there's not a huge delay between it coming out in USA and New Zealand...)

I found a copy of it totally by random today (I found it in Myers but I guess they'd ahve it at the otherbookshops for Australia, BTW) and I think it's so cute. I liked changing the Skeletons earrings to Skull earrings...Claudia's gone from a Halloween-in-August girl to a goth girl

None of the Australian bookshops have it on their websites At least, not when I checked a couple of weeks ago. I really want this book! I think Raina said she wasn't doing Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls because it didn't really say much about Claudia. So she's doing Claudia and Mean Janine instead because it has more about her and Mimi and her farmilly and stuff like that. When I got it at the book store, the lady there didn't know what I was talking about when I couldn't find it. When she put it in the computer, I had to tell her how to spell Kristy. I love it. I read it over and over again and never get tired of it. I wish I had a proper scanner and stuff so I could make a mood theme of it for my LJ.

I think I'm the only person in the fandom who doesn't like the graphic novel.
