Laine did look pretty young. I was expecting her to look like she was about 15 or 16.

^ She did! And totally not how I expected her to look, at all. She was really cute, but not the haughty, sophisticated girl seen on the cover of Stacey's Ex-Best Friend. For some reason, Laine doesn't seem the type to have short hair.

^I remember Raina mentioning that she wanted to have one of the characters to have short hair, but Laine is the only one that Ann would let her get away with. I think she originally wanted it to be Claud.

^ I know. I never pictured Laine as wearing braces.

WTF? Short hair on Claudia is, like, blasphemous.

WTF? Short hair on Claudia is, like, blasphemous. Yes it would really limit Claud's crazy hairdo abilities.

I don't mind the short hair on Laine, even though it's not how I pictured her, but the braces and freckles really don't say "sophisticated" to me.

I saw this at my library today so I flipped through it quickly. I swear I stared at the first few Stacey pictures for five minutes before I realized the thing behind her ear was a barrette and not a cigarette. ;D Overall I think I'm just not a comic book person because it didn't really interest me.

I'd say Kristy could have short hair but that would just add fuel to the idea of her being a lesbian, in a stereotypical way.

The "bad" sitters looked more like what I thought Laine would look like than Laine herself did. I enjoyed the book, though I have Kristy's Great Idea and Mary Anne Saves The Day on hold at the library now, too. (I couldn't find them anywhere so I just ordered them from le bibliotheque. Yarr.)

I decided to get this one for Christmas, after flipping through the pages at a mall. At first, I wasn't sure how much I'd like it, as I'm not usually into the comic book format myself. I actually really enjoyed seeing the sitters in graphic form, though! I can see myself looking through it often for amusement. I don't mind the short hair on Laine, even though it's not how I pictured her, but the braces and freckles really don't say "sophisticated" to me. At least they went against the stereotype, for once. ;D

yeah, i didn't like laine's haircut either. i reread this book last night, though, and i loved all the subtle bsc touches, such as goobaw on stacey's dresser. i also liked how the stuff from the portrait was included as flashbacks. it really shows that raina loves the bsc like we do!
