Does the biography explain why Ann never married or had children? I haven't read the biography yet. But whenever I read short bio's on Ann, any mention of family is totally absent. It may be that she's a lesbian (as some on this forum and other forums have mentioned) and this detail had to be whitewashed because this biography seems to be aimed at tweens. If she isn't a lesbian, being unmarried and without children is something I noticed about her even as a child. Is there mention of *any* type of romantic relationship in the biography, even a childhood love? Or is anything of the partner/children nature avoided in the text?

It's mainly avoided. There is one small mention of Ann going to her prom with a boy she knew.

Right, but it's not made out to be anything of the romantic/partner sort. Although one might get that impression.

I've heard it's pretty boring. I personally wouldn't waste my money on it.

I thought about buying it just so I could add it to my collection, but I don't want to buy it if it's really boring.

I think it depends on if you just want to know more about her life and influences. It's been discussed that the writing is pretty terrible, but some parts are good for laughs. And there's BSC-related stuff (like where certain ideas for characters and storylines came from, etc.)

As for children, all I remember is her mentioning in her letter at the back of Mallory's Christmas Wish that she loves knitting gifts for her nieces and nephews and her friends' children. And there's stuff about prom in there? Was there a second printing of the book, because I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have any of that. I vividly remember buying it shortly after meeting her (in 1995).

My copy says April 1993.
Page 87: "Ann went to senior prom with a sweet guy named Lowell Johnson. She bought a long, floor-length dress made out of orange-and-yellow flower print fabric, and wrapped a white shawl around her shoulders."

That dress sounds hideous.
I love the book's fawning tone.

I found my copy at a Goodwill store for only 0.59$ Canadian dollars. It was quite interesting.

I'll have to read it more closely next time.
