I'm looking through an arts directory and one of the artists listed has her first name, last name, and then an initial. And it's R, just like Margot Becker. Maybe this isn't as uncommon as I thought!

My mum bought this book for me when I was little, and I did enjoy reading it. I mean, there are the eye roll moments, and the fact that the book has an odd writing style, but I liked hearing about Ann's life, however innocent and/or boring people may think the book is.

The biography seems to be directed at kids (really young gulliable children): i.e. Martin's a good example, asexual, just an avarge girl- sodontgoaroundcallingheralesbian!

I was thinking about buying this book but this thread made me reconsider.

I am in the library with work to do but I saw this and the Quran on a cart and snatched them up to procrastinate (I nearly tweeted about my activities but stopped when I realized Ann could see it and would probably be creeped out). I understand that this is probably terrible library manners but I am an awful person.
The library copy has crumbs in it, which did not affect my Liz Lemon-esque "oh, brother"+eyeroll upon rereading the part about Ann's horticulture project.

I'm reading another AMM bio. It's part of a "Who Wrote That?" series on authors, and I'm liking it. Much of the info is the same as the first book, but the tone is not quite as fawning (there IS a later chapter called "A Generous Woman," though.) There are even mentions of bad reviews that Bummer Summer and the BSC series got--shock! There are different pics too, including one of Ann signing autographs for a bunch of little fans. They're surrounding her like they just want to hug her, and it's rather cute. However, I could have done without the posed photo of Ann lying across her bed in her NYC apartment, reading a book, while there is a Pee Wee Herman doll propped up behind her on a pillow

I'd like to see if I can find it. Thanks!

It's just called "Ann M. Martin," by Marylou Morano Kjelle. Chelsea House is the publisher. 2006.

It's like 30 bucks on Amazon. I guess it was a small run or just intended for school libraries or something. I might spring for a used copy when I spend the summer in the States.
Do you think it's worth getting?

Probably not, since most of it is mainly a rehashing of the official bio.
