I seem to recall towards one of the later books that Jenny is described as wearing 'regular clothes' and that what with 2 children, her mother doesn't have the time or energy to put her in 'perfect outfits' anymore. I can't remember exactly which book (but I'm thinking it was in "Kristy and the Baby Parade") So she possibly does loosen up even more than we're shown. We only see a stagnant year and a half of their fictional lives so it is possible! Andrea does sound more formal than even Jennifer, especially when pronounced Ahn-drea instead of Ann-drea. I think it was supposed to be pronouced like the latter though, given that Jenny calls her Andrea-bandrea.

I just finished Logan Likes MA. I hadn't realized that right from the beginning (almost) of the series all the sitters had already written off Jenny as someone they didn't want to sit for. Other than Baby Parade and Aloha, does anyone besides MA ever sit for the Prezziosos? I know Jessi ends up being the only person available to stay with Jenny the morning Andrea is born. I have some memory of Claudia sitting for Jenny once or...I know the Mal being stuck with a Jenny job and being told "that's what junior sitters are for" or something like that. I am almost positive I have mentioned this elsewhere a long time ago. #10 just "reminded" me. Did anyone else sit for Jenny? If really not, it was very strange that none of the P's ever caught on. I hope Jenny didn't!

maybe it wasn't really a secret, kind of like how stacey always got first dibs on charlotte jobs because they got along the best. after a while jenny probably preferred MA anyway, just because she was the only sitter she really got to know. i still think it was crap how all of these amazing, kind, and caring sitters refused to sit for her unless they had to though.

^That is probably very true. Jenny possibly felt more secure with the same person who seemed to like her and ask her if she wanted to play even if she (J) sometimes refused. It totally was ridiculous and very sad that no one else could "tolerate" Jenny. I know one of them actually used that term once. I never thought Jenny was a brat ever. She was impolite to Matt Braddock, yes, no question. She had a very healthy set of lungs and I could definitely see how (at the play group) trying to get her to play with other kids only to be told no but 5 minutes later have her complain no one was playing with her would get old very fast. I wonder what would have happened had Jenny gone home from the play group dirty. Do you think The P's would have had a fit if someone suggested Jenny wear actual play clothes, if even only to the play group? I would hope that wasn't why the P's kept her out of nursery or preschool! Poor Jenny, she really did get a bad deal.

Count me among the people who never really had a problem with Mrs. Prezzioso. I always thought she truly did love her kids, but was just going about it in an unconventional way. And her husband must really love her, in turn, to go along with the fanciness of her personality.
I also liked how Mrs. P was always the first to defend the BSC against the "hater" parents. Coming home early from a party because she got into a fight where she defended the BSC? I'd love to have someone like that in my corner.

I think I'd probably enjoy dressing my girls up in pretty, fancy dresses. I'd get that they want to play though, but do you think Jenny's personality probably fed Mrs P's dressing her in clothes? Like, Jenny probably wanted it just as much, in the beginning.

I'm another who enjoyed reading Jenny stories. I never understood why they all thought she was bratty either. Considering these girls are supposed to have a lot of experience with kids, they should know that it's usually typical 4 year old behavior. My nephew is now 3, and he doesn't like to get dirty at all. It's not the way my sister raised her (although she is glad he hates getting dirty) it's just the way he is. If there is a mess on the floor, he wants it to get cleaned up. He'll even try to start cleaning it up himself. So I don't find it too odd that a girl is fussy when it's dirty if a boy is like that. Although in JEnny's case, it is the way she was raised.
About the TV thing too. I always let the kids watch it, especially if it was first thing in the morning. My sister and I loved morning cartoons when we were little, and so my mom let us watch our cartoons in the morning before we went out to play. I kind of kept of that tradition when I was baby-sitting. They could sit and watch TV, eat their breakfast and then we could either find games to play inside or outside. Usually if it was a week day, there was never anything good for kids to watch after about 11 anyway. So the kids got bored with TV after a while and they would choose to do something else anyway. Plus it kept them busy when I had to clean up.

I've always liked Jenny. She was a brat, I know, but it's not her fault. Her MOTHER is the one who screwed her daughter up. I liked Mrs. P (I am so not going to attempt to spell her last name) a lot. She was kind of...em, weird...but that's what I like about her. The rest of the moms are too *normal*. When I was Jenny's age and even older (from age 3 to 7), I was a lot like her. My mom dressed me up like Jenny a LOT. Everybody used to say I looked as if I stepped out of a kids' fashion catalog. Believe me, I was a nightmare child in preschool and kindergarten (in preschool, I threw the biggest temper tantrum at a funeral). Anyway, Jenny may be bratty, but she's FOUR YEARS OLD, for God's sake!!!

I was Jenny -- always dressed up, liked indoor activities, afraid of big dogs -- minus the temper tantrums. I was quiet, shy, and very anxious at her age. Yeah, the BSC would have loooved me.

I felt bad for Jenny in Mary Anne and Miss Priss. She just liked to do quiet activities, be neat and clean. Yet Mary Anne thought Jenny had a psychological problem, lol. If I was Jenny, I would have NOT wanted to join the Pikes' kickball team. Man, the BSC would *adore* me!

In a way I understood where the girls were coming from, why they said Jenny was bratty..there's the fact that she would have a fit and scream at the top of her lungs when they were just offering friendly suggestions, not even being forceful..but if they feel she's so awful, why did Dawn feel guilty about considering not inviting the Prezzioso's to the barbecue, I wonder..as for the comparisons to Jenny and Karen, well as I always said, Karen is basically a mini-Kristy with a little bit of sensitivity and maybe Kristy felt Karen reminded her of herself when she was that age..it IS hypocritical of her to criticize someone with the same flaws she has..compared to the terrors of today, both would be classified as well-behaved..there are parents who WISH the worst they can say about the children was that they're loud, love spooky things too much, and bossy. Wonder why no one hates on Margo for HER bossiness and why she wasn't branded as a criminal for shoplifting in the "Jessi and the Bad Baby-Sitter book.

Maybe because the Cult doesn't like indoor, girly-girls like Jenny. They prefer their children to enjoy the Great Outdoors and getting dirty.

I got the impression that a few of the girls wouldn't mind besides Mary-Anne. A few probably don't like them.

I never understood the Jenny hate. She wasn't the only child that threw tantrums. Claire Pike flinging herself on the ground shrieking "Nofe-air" comes to mind. She wasn't the only spoiled child. Amanda "I have a 400 dollar cat" Delaney certainly fit that definition. Mrs P. being unrealistic about her keeping her clothes clean was irritating to be sure.

I understand why the girls didn't like Jenny much. She did scream a lot for no reason (or when the girls offered friendly suggestions like someone else mentioned) and it was annoying how she refused to wear play clothes. But she was a typical 4 yr old and the BSC should be more understanding since the only reason why Jenny is a spoiled prissy brat is because of her mother...
