I think we've all had some of these. ;D I feel for Jackie having a "Jackie" day every day. I kept thinking of him today after my morning. By 11 am, I had managed to dump an entire carton of yogurt and then a bowl of oatmeal and the rest of the day progressed about the same. Anyway, I know Jackie can't help his clumsy tendencies and feels badly about them. That's why it sometimes annoys me when the sitters call him the "walking disaster" but at least they don't really yell at him for his accidents. (Mom got a bit irritated with the spills yesterday, especially since the oatmeal was on the carpet....;D)

^ I totally agree. I hate it that the girls would roll their eyes and sigh dramatically every time Jackie had a Jackie moment. I'm sure it would be frustrating, but some of his mishaps sound funny - I would've laughed at most of his accidents! It's like the time when my friend was doing laundry, and somehow the washing machine caught on fire (which I can see happening to Jackie!). I mean, come on - a machine of water caught on fire! (He still doesn't know how it happened.) I still crack up whenever I think about it, but I somehow can't picture the BSC laughing at something like that.
Sorry to hear you had a Jackie day. Sometimes that happens to me, too. I can't think of an example off the top of my head, but I know I've had my fair share of Jackie days!

^ Thanks. Love the washing machine story and it gave me a good laugh but you're right about not being able to imagine the BSC laughing at it. I'm sure it did get difficult to sit for someone constantly having accidents but still.... (I guess I could ask my mom about that since I passed my "Jackie" day on to my dad with him spilling his oatmeal all over himself in the morning ;D) It reminds me of how they always made such a big deal about Jenny being a "brat"!

I couldn't have dealt with Jackie. I seriously would've been annoyed. I don't want to be picking up after a clutzy kid non-stop! I mean it's not like he'd just trip, he'd trip and take a curtain rod and a vase with him, meanwhile stepping on his dogs tail and sending the dog running through the house all muddy or something. I never got the impression that the BSC were very bothered by Jackie's mishaps. They always seemed more "poor Jackie" than "dang it look what he did NOW!" to me.

I think I could handle Jackie, simply because I know what it is like to be a little clumsy since I am once in awhile. I defiantly have had my Jackie days.

I would probably hate handling Jackie, even though I am like him sometimes, because I'm so easily annoyed and bothered. That's why I would never be able to baby-sit in real life ;D My mom is not a patient person, either, and my dad and I drive her crazy with our Jackie days. ;D As for the BSC responding to him, I don't think they necessarily get mad but kind of stereotype (that's not really the word but I can't find the one I'm looking for right now....) him as the "walking disaster" like they do Jenny "the brat" - even though both of these are pretty true (except I think they make a bigger deal out of Jenny than necessary)

Derek Masters seems to have several "Jackie" moments in Kristy and the Vampires. The connection wasn't mentioned, though. Makes me think of another point of if Derek and Jackie were ever friends. I can't remember.

^ Hmmm, good point. I don't know if it was ever mentioned or not, but Derek definitely had his share of Jackie days in that book! They could probably relate to one another. Who were Jackie's friends? Most of the BSC clients hung out with each other a lot, but who did Jackie hang out with, besides his brothers? I don't recall him hanging out with friends too often. Poor guy.

I have too many Jackie days/moments too count. It's unbelievable how many things I drop for no apparant reason, lose or misplace. Also, I can NOT wear white. Something white on me will be ruined within less than a day. I'm too clumsy for my own good, it's just not funny!

I always wonder that, too. He seems to know he's a klutz and I think he feels bad about it. Isn't David Michael mentioned as being clumsy too?

^ I think so...maybe in the earlier, Ann-written books, at least. It sounds right but I can't give a specific example.
I hope Jackie's not friendless because of his mishaps. Maybe his friendlessness was just an oversight from the writers. I hope so. It would be frustrating to sit for the kid, but he's sweet. It makes me strangely sad to think that Jackie didn't have friends.
I really need to stop thinking about the BSC so much!

Jackie always seemed to me like a kid who's friends with everyone, but isn't really good friends with anyone in particular. Everyone seemed to like him - no one seemed to actively dislike him, anyway - but y'all are right, he never had any friends he seemed to like more than any others.

My dad had one of these Jackie days tonight when he almost dumped my birthday cake off the plate - lit candles and all ;D Mom and I both looked at each other and said "Jackie". Agree that everyone seemed to like Jackie but he just didn't have any close friends. I guess some kids don't.

I went through some phases as a kid where I didn't have one exceptionally close friend and just sort of drifted. Maybe we caught Jackie in a stage like that during the time warp.

My worst Jackie day happened when I was a candy striper at the hospital. I was filling the patients' water pitchers, and one of them said, "Please make sure you don't spill my coffee." I promised I wouldn't.
When I came back with his water pitcher, I carefully moved his coffee over on his bedside table, not noticing that the water pitcher was tilted and spilling water all over the floor. I grabbed some paper towels to clean it up, and when I stood up, I bumped his bedside table and--you guessed it--knocked over his coffee. So then I had to fetch a mop bucket to clean up the mess. I managed to run over my foot with the mop bucket when I took it back to his room.
Gah, that was so embarrassing. (But it's funny, in retrospect.) I totally related to Jackie in that moment.
