This is another favorite of mine, because I was obsessed with but not very good at gymnastics growing up.

This was one of my favorites too. I liked hearing about Karen, Hannie, and Nancy buying their matching dolls.

I love how Karen just assumes she will be selected.
And how she cartwheels while weeding the Gymnastics teachers garden to prove she can, lol.

I liked that Karen wasn't the best in her class at something. It had decent continuity from the one (maybe Karen's Big Joke?) where she thought the kids in her gymnastics class were unfriendly because they didn't want to talk during class, and then she realized that they were friendly if she was talking about gymnastics, but they wanted to be able to hear the teacher talking.

I wonder if Karen ever came across the book *A Very Young Gymnast*, by Jill Krementz.

I might have mentioned this in another thread somewhere, but I think it's kind of weird that Karen isn't good at gymnastics but in Karen's Figure Eight she turns to have this amazing natural talent for figure skating. You'd think the two things would be a little bit more related.
Or maybe I've just read Little Girls in Pretty Boxes: The Making and Breaking of Elite Gymnasts and Figure Skaters too many times.

I've read that book once (is there a new edition, by the way?); dance is related to both disciplines but I don't think they're as related to one another.

I was never good at gymnastics growing up either, so I could definitely relate to that. My favorite part of this book was Karen, Hannie and Nancy buying the doll sisters. I wanted to go out and buy my own doll sisters after reading this book. I loved their names, Kerry, Merry and Terry.

^I also liked their other suggestions before they settled on those names. Like Cordelia, Cornelia, etc.? All matchy-matchy. ;D

I agree, BBB. I thought Terry, Kerry and Merry were the most boring names they came up with.

"Merry" is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, I agree with you wenonah. I liked the first set of names they came up with. Karen was so persistent about being on the team!! Cartwheels were not my specialty, but I still loved reading this book a hundred times. It never gets old.

Merry was the name of Karen and Andrew's nanny, and Teri was one of the twins in Karen's class. You would think they (Ann and the ghostwriters) could come up with some more names.
