I don't remember much about this plot but one thing that does stick in my mind is Mr McGill's job.
From what I understand, Ed was a corperate lawyer. He loses his job and lands a job as vice president of a big company. His friend helped him land.
I'm no expert in buisness but this is unrealistic. I'm pretty sure you have to be a major share holder (afterall, Vice-President is higher ranked than chairman)or at the very least have a very important job at the company for a very long time.
I do know that Vice President isn't exactly an open vacancy to the Joe public.
As if someone is going to pass up a great job like that just because they want to help out a friend.

This is mentioned in another thread... Isn't it only Matchmaker where it says that Ed is a lawyer? In all the other books, I just get the impression that he's a big business guy.
As for high level management jobs, you don't always have to work your way up the ladder within the business. I suppose it might be an easy way to do it, but there are cases where chief executives ad other high level management positions are appointed to people outside the business. Not to any Joe Public, but someone with experience in that field and in management. Ed had a pretty high position in his old job (VP), and it seems like he would've had years and years of experience under his belt, so I didn't think it was *that* unrealistic that he could get a job similar to his old one.
