Heh...I love that in the "Dawn" picture that gwenfan posted, her hair is the right length, yet Hodges never made it so on the book covers.

I wonder who else has done modelling for book covers. Besides Fabio. HAHAHA Fabio. Good call I knew that models were used as references for Hodges paintings, but I've never really given it much thought before, like that there are real life BSC look alikes out there!!

I just noticed that Hodges didn't do the last few mystery book covers. (The ones that are multi-colored.) Has this been discussed already? I wonder why he didn't do those. Did he do everything else besides the Friends Forever cover?

He didn't do the first four books, either.

^I was wondering about that when I was reading a couple of LS books recently. Inside the covers it only said illustrations by Susan Tang.

The weird part about Susan Tang and LS books is the way Karen's appearance totally changes after the first 25 or so books.

They do look like BSC members. Especially the Mary Anne one!

The Mary Anne definitely looks like later MA, but older.

He is very talented. It's too bad, however, that he is unable to draw properly proportioned children, since that is a skill which would have come in handy when painting covers for a series of children's books about, you know, baby-sitting.

So who are some of the other artists and what else have they done? I don't have all of my books in front of me, but here are a few things I found... I think the earlier editions did not list the author. I have a 4th edition of Mary Anne Saves the Day and it does not mention the artist, but the 19th edition lists it as Joel Iskowitz (you can see his name at the bottom of the cover), who appears to have moved on to a successful career as a postage stamp designer! www.creativeshake.com/profile.html?MyUrl=JoelIskowitzwww.sleepingbearpress.com/authors_illustrators/iskowitz.htmThe Truth About Stacey was illustrated by Dale Dyer. I didn't see a homepage for him, but it looks like he has illustrated other books.

Ed Acuna did some later book covers, like Mary Anne and the Haunted Bookstore. There are some of his paintings of snakes here.

I agree! If he put himself on more covers, there could've been a game to find out which covers he was and wasn't on.

These really do look like the characters. Mary Anne especially. I feel like she was the same model from Mary Anne and the Silent Witness. Also, I see the photo which you saw as Claudia more like Kristy. They do look like Jessi and Mallory -- a lot! Wow. Like them in their teen years. Also, I do feel connected to a lot of Hodges covers. Just imagine all of the hours you've spent looking at the covers, and how they're etched in your mind. I love it. I particularly love Hodges work as it relates to the scenes of nature or houses. He is particularly good at doing insides of homes, making them look warm and cozy. And also outdoor scenes. I wonder, however, if the bad photos of the GIRLS THEMSELVES are really Hodges fault or the choices of models and dresses (so creative artist).
