I didn't care much for Elizabeth in BSC books but liked her much more in the LS books. ;D

Elizabeth kind of falls out of the picture after she marries Watson. Plus, I thought it was weird how she made Charlie take over for her when he was like, 10 or 11 years old. What was Nannie doing? Poor Charlie!

^Oh,poor Charlie. I still can't decide! I like them all! I think all of them are great moms. ^Why adopt? It's better to have your own children. You can name your first baby,if she's a girl,Mallory. Why is it BETTER to have your own children? There are so many children who don't have loving parents, and if someone wants to take those kids, love them as their own, and treat them as their own, it is not better to have your own kids. Not everyone can have their own children -- are you saying that they aren't as good as natural parents? Because plenty of biological parents abuse their children. Plenty of adoptive parents don't. I think it's better for children to be wanted -- no matter who raises and parents them. Biology is just one part of having kids. Furthermore -- there are more then enough people in this world without ignorantly bringing more in. No one should be discouraged from adoption. I'm not discouraging her from adoption. And I'm definitely not against adoption. I was just thinking that, wouldn't it be fun to,listen to your baby inside your tummy? And think,God gave me this baby. I'll be bringing a new life to this world. And wouldn't it be so touching to see your newborn baby after your delivery? You would think that, after all these suffering and pain,it's definitely worth it. And there's a lot of couples who can't have their own children. They can adopt. ^For some reason, I have ALWAYS wanted to adopt. I have never in my life had any desire to have my own children. It may have a lot to do with the fact that I am adopted myself. My dad was adopted and so was his brother and his biological family as well. I have always just wanted to love a child that wouldn't be loved otherwise. I agree with aln, that's very nice.

^I understood what you meant Mary Anne Spier. I am asked a lot of the same things by my family.
I felt bad for Charlie too. He really had to grow up fast and become a key emotional support figure for his family.

Poor Charlie! Yeah, that's why I'm not too crazy about Nannie. Ironic, she suddenly shows up when her daughter marries a millionaire. ;D

^ That always bothered me, too. Not that I made the connection that she shows up when she marries a millionaire, but that she's around NOW, when they really needed her BEFORE. In the SS Babysitters Remember, Kristy talks about having a really bad housekeeper/babysitter, but she was the only one they could afford. There was no mention of Nannie in the picture at all.
But in a previous discussion about this subject, someone mentioned something that I hadn't really thought of before. Elizabeth is pretty young for having four kids, which could suggest that Nannie was probably relatively young when Kristy and her brothers little and her dad left. (Especially if Nannie were on the younger side when she had Elizabeth in the first place.) If she was still in her 50s, she might still be working a job of her own, and therefore unable to watch the grandkids after school.

I always thought Nannie was holding a job of her own (when did Mr. Nannie die?) when the Thomas kids were young, and that's why she wasn't in the picture very much. There seems to be a lot of dislike for Nannie about this subject, but that's what I always thought, so I didn't have any hard feelings towards her...it does seem strange though in a way that Elizabeth was always in such a bind according to Kristy, but never called on her mom to help her out. But I haven't read Kristy's Portrait, so maybe I'm missing something.
I don't think it's SO bad that Nannie showed up at the mansion when Elizabeth and Watson asked her to move in and take care of Emily. Maybe she thought living with her daughter and grandkids sounded appealing, and like a change of pace. And even though Watson obviously has the means to hire someone to watch Emily, maybe he and Elizabeth thought this arrangement would be nice for everybody...the family being close, etc. However, there's no denying that Nannie does seem to be the person who spends the MOST time with Emily. She seemed more like her mother than Elizabeth.

Poor Charlie! That's what bugged me about Elizabeth and Nannie, too. Agree, booboo that Nannie seemed more like a mom, especially to Emily. I actually would prefer to have the baby pre-made. ;D ;D But I know a lot of women like having them.

I actually am looking forward to being pregnant someday. I want to have kids really bad someday.
As for the topic of favorite mom, it was hard to chose. They all have qualities that I like about them. I actually surprised myself and voted for Claudia's mom. I think she seemed more supportive and understanding of her daughter than Claudia thought. She seemed to care a lot about Claudia and Janine. I think with her pushing with school was what a lot of parents would do and they only wanted what they thought was best for their daughters.

^ She was totally supportive. I just read Claudia and the Terrible Truth, and Mrs. K. was great in that! Not the storming in to rescue the abused family - that was super dangerous. But she held Claudia while she cried, and she was very cool about keeping Claud in the loop rather than just being an adult and completely taking over.

I voted for Mrs. Pike.
I like all of the moms except Sharon. I think it was extremely selfish of her to move her kids all the way across the country from their dad and friends. I can understand her wanting to get away from her ex-husband but I think she should have let the kids stay with their dad.

^ I also liked Mrs. Kishi in that one. I think she's a lot nicer and a lot better mom than Claud gives her credit for being and I think a lot of the "forbidding" is mostly in Claudia's mind. ;D
