Maybe Ann/the ghostwriters thought it seemed more "exotic," which would be fitting for both of those instances. Or maybe they just thought it would be too confusing, since Jackie Rodowsky shows up in most books...hmm. Never even noticed that before!

I never noticed that before, either. Interesting.
For some reason I always pronounced Jacqui the way it looked..."JACK-we". Of course, I should know better, since it's a French name, isn't it? ;D

Ok I just read this forum and you guys missed an obsession of Ann's - horses! I have not read her biography (but it sounds awesome). I picture 11-year-old Ann playing with horse figurines and reading "Misty of Chataogua" books or whatever they are called. She's was totally one of those horse kids.

Also, how do you pronounce "Spier"? Is it "Spy-er" or "Spear"? I always went with Spear.

It's Spear. A bunch of us grew up thinking it was Spy-er. In one book it's said that it rhymes with cheer.

Bringing up Ann's obsession on the Wizard of Oz, every time I hear it or see it mentioned, I think of the BSC. ;D I know Kristy's family was really into it. Did the books mention other families liking it or was it just a big thing for the Thomas-Brewers?

^ I think I remember that. Was that the one where one of them was wearing a funnel on his head to be the tin man? That always made me laugh. ;D Which book was that in? I may have to reread.

Laura Ashley. wtf. When I was thirteen, I didn't even know what Laura Ashley was, and if I did, I wouldn't have cared about it.
Also, they have a lot of those "carnivals" or whatever. I would NEVER have arranged a huge event for a bunch of miscellaneous neighbourhood kids when I was thirteen. I do help organize camps for Girl Scouts, but we usually work with the Pathfinders who are 13-15 (I'm 17).

^ I think Laura Ashley was big when we were thirteen. We're a little older than you, zestycactus, so that might be why it was before your time. ;D

my mom made me wear laura ashley and decorated my room in laura ashley when i was little. yuck. Hey, my grandmother did my room in Ethan Allen. Except the sheets, which were flannel with ducks on them. So... I think I would have preferred the Laura Ashley. At least that wouldn't have looked like a room for a 40 year old. My mom put Lady Lovely Locks curtains up and called it "decorated". And for clothing - other than uniforms, my grandma got like 90% of my clothing from Land's End because my cousin was some sort of high ranking employee. I can't say I loved it.

That was in Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook. Concerning Laura Ashley, my Mum loved it and used to dress me in Laura Ashley clothes when I was little!
