I don't think it was weird that Nannie raised EM. My grandmother was my primary babysitter, and after my little sister was born (and I was in school), my mom went back to work and my grandmother raised my sister almost exclusively.

^That's the way it works in most Eastern European families. Moms work, grandmas moves in to take care of the kids. Stay-at-home moms are pretty much non-existent.

Why there's almost no 14 year olds, why the only 10 year olds are siblings, and why it took 100 books for the girls to have seventh grade friends.

^to me it makes sense, kind of... they probably didn't have much chance to associate with people of other grades.

They barely associated with the kids at the next lunch table. I doubt they would seek out people from other grades.

Kids in the other grades were totally too cliquey. The BSC was not snobby like that.

Haha, but I do agree about the 14 year old thing... Sam was the only one I can think of?

All seriousness, I didn't understand why Jessi/Mallory were the only young friends. I had plenty of a year old/year younger friends.
The 14 year old is weird though: how come Sam (who then gets to be 15) is the only one around?

That is a bit funny. I assume some of their classmates in 8th grade have turned 14 but it just isn't mentioned.

I was 14 in 8th, so I always wanted there to be kids in Stoneybrook in that situation. But everyone was the "perfect" age for their grade.

I never thought about Stacey's insulin needing to be refrigerated until someone mentioned it on these boards.

Quite a few of my classmates were, especially when the year ended. It would've been great to read about kids in Stoneybrook with that same situation. Heck, it would've been great to see one or all of the sitters turning 14 before the end of the series. But they never even made it out of eighth grade so... lol ;D.

As a kid, I never thought about the fact that they cycled through the school year over and over, meaning that their birthdays also came and went, yet no one ever turned 14. It's too bad we didn't get to read about more birthday parties, it might have made for some fun storylines. The only ones I can recall are MA's surprise party that freaked her out, and Abby's 13th. But no 14th b-days for anyone. Bummer.

I never thought about that stuff either as a kid, those were things that just never crossed my mind ;D. But now that I'm older, I come to notice these things more lol. I agree that the birthday parties would've made fun storylines .
