It is really high up, but it may have been painted like that for compositional reasons.

Kristy's rolled-up jeans! Perfect touch for the time period this was published. Very 80s/early 90s. Although I can see Kristy not doing it to be trendy, but because she's short and her jeans might be too long.

Never liked Claud's hairstyle here, but I like the blue on her and Emily's pink outfit. Her shoes are very clean. I always liked the room, it seemed cozy.

I never liked this cover as it doesn't explain the core of the book to me very much. Also, it would easily confuse non-BSC readers.

A purple couch is not what I expected for the Kishis, though! Wouldn't this have been the Brewers' living room? Not that I'd expect a purple couch for them either. I like Emily Michelle's outfit here. A pink sweatsuit with a hot air balloon on it seems very much like a real outfit an 80s toddler would have worn.

This isn't a book that I have reread all that much, but from what I recall, they had Emily Michelle come to the Kishis' house for tutoring so that she would be more used to being around non-family members and in a different environment.

When I looked at the cover to think about it for this thread, I seriously forgot about Claudia thinking she was adopted. I had never thought about this cover in that way, but maybe you're right. Don't they have a scene at the beginning where Janine gets some big award at school?

I guess this is a good time to say I never got why Emily was always announced as the most adorable child on Earth. She looks like any other kid to me.
I don't understand the furniture arrangement. The couch is behind the chair, but they're both facing the same direction. So...if you sit on the couch you get a view of the side table and back of someone's head. There looks like another table or chair leg on the right hand side, so that is also in front of the sad couch of loneliness.

I do like Emily Michelle & Claudia's outfits. Wasn't the cover of one of the chapters, when Claudia bay sit Emily Michelle, she was teaching EM, her colors. I wish, I have this book. So, I can reread this again.

They had that random chair behind the couch that no one ever sat in:

I guess it's just to add depth to the set.
