I'm snarking this one right now.
Mrs. Arnold has a horrifying fashion sense. I'm surprised the twins didn't have long-lasting trauma from the way she dressed them!

Look at a lot of pictures fromm the 80s- what we wore as kids then was pretty different from kids now. Although we looked like little girls then, which I can rarely say for little girls today!

Hmm, as a kid I wore leggings and big t-shirts/sweatshirts... Not sure if that's any more girly than little girls today. My sister was very frilly as a child, and she was born in '99.

As another child of the 80's, I agree with wenonah. I've been going through lots of old pictures for scrapbooking and my childhood dresses had lots of frills and ruffles.

Oh, so many frills and ruffles. In old family pictures I am always in lacy dresses, tights, and Mary Janes with ribbons in my hair and my cousins are all barefoot and in shorts. lol

I used to wear a dress, when I was a little girl. I hate wearing the white itchy part that was under the dress. Like when we go to photo studio, to have a picture taken. I was like 4 or 5 years old. I was wearing a blue dress with balloons design on the dress. It was my favorite dress. I wish, I knew where the picture is at.

I was kinda meh about dresses. I liked dressing up the odd time, but mostly I had to dress up in itchy velvet dresses. I loved my first communion dress, though. It was long enough to reach the floor and had a full skirt.
Honestly, I can't blame parents and little girls for liking dresses. It's when parents make a little girl that doesn't want to wear one do so (like in Mrs. Arnold's case) that I find it problematic.

I remember one picture of little me in a red ruffley dress in one of those professional shots from JC Penney. Other than that I don't remember too many dresses in my lifetime, ruffled or otherwise. My niece likes dresses, but they are just cotton shirt type things with leggings.

I finally did reread this last night. All these many years later, I'd still love a moon (maybe not with glitter on it) and stars sweatshirt. I just had the thought that my very favortie Touched by an Angel episode is a A Bringer of Light and that is about God's sky and stars. This story, I admit didn't do much for me. I felt awful for Marilyn and Carolyn, especially it sounded like at school constantly being called Marilyn or Carolyn. Where they in the same second grade class? I know Nicky has a crush on one of the girls and gives her a Valentine at the MSc Masquerade Party in Stacey's Ex Best Friend (love that subplot and am happy Valentine's is coming to read it again aoon :)We know David Michael and Jackie Rodowsky are 7 and at SES, too. I would have enjoyed one of them being mentioned in this book. I also still don't feel like I know either twin very well. I wonder if that's because this is the only book they are 7 and new to us in. We never do get to read about Kristy and MA each sitting for them long ago, do we? That was mentioned when Mrs. Arnold first called the BSC. Also, and I know, I've said this in other books, if there is a big fundraising project at SES, wouldn't a lot of other families also need sitters, too? This could have been a BSC mini camp or something time. The only thing that will always anger me about this book is the thrown in scene with Andrew not wanting to be a skating bear. I won't get started on that again, just say makes me happier to know he so enjoys acting in Karen's Christmas Carol and also is in the Big House Neighborhood Christmas Pageant in Karen's Angel. I did read this book last night beause even though the cake says Happy Birthday, Carolyn, if I ignore or cover up, the "lyn" it says Happy Birthday, Carol, and extra way of wishing our Carol on here, one.

Did anyone, figure out what the twins were saying, in they're secret language?

Beepers were fabulous when they were first available; I recall my "uncle" who was a pediatrcian first having one. Before that, being on call meant being at home. A beeper meant he could go places and call in if the beeper went off. Yeah, when pagers/beepers first came out, only professionals (i.e. doctors) had them. Then, in the early '90s, they became available to regular people, who began using them as a social tool. My older sister's boyfriend (now husband) was a techie and always had the latest gadgets. In 1991/1992, he got his first beeper, which we all thought was so cool. I remember, if we wanted to reach him, we would dial his beeper, which would go off on his end, then he'd find a payphone, and call us right back. Calculator spelling (aka leetspeak) was also popular with beepers. You could connect two beepers and send each other words made out of numbers, or create an alphabet where a number stood for a letter and number combinations for entire words. This was the texting of our time! haha

Just finished this one. I actually really liked the bits of the book toward the end, with Mallory bonding with the twins, going shopping with them, going to the mall with her friend, and the earring exchange at the end of the book. I like the books where the girls all feel like friends so that was a really nice scene with all of them. I like that Stacey was even mentioned, even if we didn't hear the phonecall between her and Claudia.

My favourite detail was the loot bags at the twins’ birthday party. First, for just the memory of getting loot bags! But then also because it made me snort with laughter to see Mallory talk about how they used to be less generous back in her day, as if that were a whole decade ago! This loot bag did sound especially generous to be fair!
