This is random but I always thought Mal and her roommate would get cold with the window open a crack in the late fall/ November. Maybe they're like me and find it easier to sleep in rooms that are cold?

^I agree. I felt like Mallory finally had a positive change in her life but we never got to read too much about it. Though I will always wish her parents had (to our knowledge) at least stood up for her or at least tried to deal with the situation at SMS. I remember we had this discussion way back when but Mal really could have also gone to Kelsey Middle School or even found out about scholarships to Shannon's School or if Stoneybrook Academy went through 8th grade, there, too. I know this is O/T but does anyone know (I apologize if I've asked this before, I think I have) if Karen's school is K-8th? I know in one book at least 6th graders are mentioned. In any case, I would have much preferred another Mal book to ones that followed this such as Little Liar and Fire. I think part of it was that she was feeling sort of lost in the shuffle at home as well, and wanted to be less of a Duggar-style sister mom and more of just Mallory, if that makes sense.

^That does make good sense, Greer. I was so glad Mal did have a positive experience at Rivervend. It would have been great hearing more about it and had her decision to go to boarding school not been (mostly) based on wanting/needing to make a break from Stoneybrook.

I would have liked to hear more about her experience at Riverbend. I was glad she was able to get away and have a positive experience.

I never thought about Vanessa going Riverbend. I could see that happening someday. Mal would be fretting over the odds of all her brothers and sisters following her out there.

It took me a second too. I thought she meant they were too stupid to get in.

^ Well, I can't see all 8 Pikes being able to earn scholarships to a creative arts school. Vanessa, maybe, provided that she's actually good at poetry instead of just enjoying it.

^True and I suppose Jordan might be able to get in to one by playing the piano.

If anyone's curious, it looks like Easton, MA is a real place, though I'm not sure if that was intentional. I wasn't picturing it being that near the cape area; I was picturing it more inland, around mountains. I loved this book. Count me as another one who would have LOVED going to Riverbend. I wanted to go to boarding school really badly - no hesitation on my part on leaving home!

Riverbend is supposed to be in the Berkshires, in the western part of the state. So I think that Easton is just a coincidence and they didn't check

This is the book, I found in the basement. I thought all my old BSC books got given long time ago.
This book is okay. It's mostly Mallory at boarding. The sub -plot was the Pike family. I didn't remember reading this book.
Why didn't Mallory go to different school in Stronybrook?
