I really liked how events in previous books were mentioned. Like Louie dying and Susan the autistic girl, etc. Other than that, meh.

Kristy basically decided to run for office because she didn't like the school play they were putting on. Wasn't it Mary Poppins? Everyone totally dissed it and called it babyish, even Stacey (Hello, Stacey? That's your favorite movie EVER and none of the girls have ever made fun of you for liking it). I thought it was odd that Dawn suggested doing A Raisin in the Sun because I don't know many 13 year olds that would even know what that was and it's about black people, so how would they pull that off? They'd have to recruit every african american student in the school.

I read A Raisin in the Sun in school in eigth grade. I went to a almost entirely white school, so I think that was good for us. Just to get some different life perspectives.

I can see a book about SMS putting on Raisin in the Sun. A Super Special -- "Baby-sitters in Blackface!"

I can see a book about SMS putting on Raisin in the Sun. A Super Special -- "Baby-sitters in Blackface!" With a subtitle: Except for Jessi, Because (There's Just No Other Way to Say This) JESSI'S BLACK!

Why does Pete Black keep going from being a pretty cool guy to being a total dork from book to book?
Jamie Newton and his bike was one of the most snooze-inducing subplots ever.

For some reason I remember thinking Jamie's subplot was kind of interesting when I was a kid. I have no idea why. Re-reading it nearly put me to sleep. SO boring! And I hated when the, like, 9 year olds rode by on their bikes and were all, "You're doing great, Jamie! Just keep practising, you'll be riding with us in no time!"
ETA: hah, I just re-read this thread and noticed that I said the exact same thing about Jamie's subplot six months ago.

I HATED the Jamie's Bike storyline. It was boring and Jamie was soooo whiny, even for a 4 year old. Made me want to push him off his darn bike Yeah I'm evil. I could totally relate to Kristy's problems keeping up with everything she had to do because I was always worrying like that in HS and it sucked. And I was glad Mallory won secretary, even if they don;t mention it much in other books. Word on the Mary Poppins thing...that was dumb. Ghostwriters should have paid attention to it being Stacey's favorite movie in earlier books.

Especially the way Kristy said "Mary Poppins??... disgusting." I felt kinda bad for Stacey, I noticed that she did not say a word during this entire conversation. Also I felt rather offended, I like Mary Poppins myself, one of my favourite films Also wtf the girls wanted to do A Raisin in the Sun... it's a good play but aren't there only 6 black kids at SMS?? Thought it was a bit odd that the BSC wanted to do that... I think it was blonde lover Dawn who wanted to do it as well... surprised Jessi didn't go into a rant.

^ When did she say that about Mary Poppins? Agree that was mean, even though that isn't my favorite movie. Still..... everyone has different taste and lots of people (especially Stacey) like it. I will have to reread as I haven't read this for a while. I thought about the Raisin in the Sun thing too. Totally agree with Magentanation on the subplot - usually I like Jamie but hated this one - and on Mal. I know they mentioned it again in Don't Give Up Mallory, which I liked. Also can relate to being overwhelmed. Feel like that right now so need to get off here I guess ;D
