Maybe they took it more than once? REcertification?

They took an infant care class (Baby Parade?) and a CPR class (MA to the Rescue). If they took any first aid classes prior to those then they weren't shown to the audience. I remember being shocked in MA to the Rescue that it had taken them that long to take a class like that. Kristy should have laid off the festivals and been more diligent about getting them certified.

^They did take infant care in Baby Parade because of Andrea P. I agree Sparklymouse.

Oh yeah, Betsy had a 23-year-old sister that already had a kid, so Betsy was an eight-year-old auntie. I think that would be kinda fun. They'd probably grow up more like siblings than aunt/niece. I'm 14 years older than my niece and I like to think of her like a little sister. In junior high, I had a friend who was the youngest in a big family and was a late-in-life child for her parents. She has a nephew who's nine years older than her. Pretty crazy. Did anyone else think this was the weirdest beginning to a BSC book ever??? Claudia is talking about how like "Oh yeah everyone in the BSC knows how Kristy just fantasizes over the idea of wearing food." Whaaaaaaaa? Sure they talk in the books about how she makes gross comments on food, but that's completely different from dreaming about wearing food (and having "buttercream eyelashes", as Claudia says). Honestly, the only thing I could really think about after reading this was that I bet Kristy and Bart are going to get pretty kinky with food when they get older. 1. Kristy is like so GaGa before it was cool. 2. She's always struck me as the kinky type. Anyways, I agree with everyone that said the Sobaks should have apologized. Even if they didn't know the accident was Betsy's fault, you'd think they'd still want to apologize. Most people would, hoping that if they're very nice about it no one will sue. Betsy seemed like such an annoying little kid... I don't much care for practical jokes either. If I was Mrs. Sobak, I wouldn't have had the nerve to try and hire another sitter. And if I were Mrs. Kishi, I'd have been on the horn with Mrs. Sobak pretty quickly. If something like that had happened to me as a kid, someone's head would have rolled once my mom found out.

this book always reminds me of something that happened when i was a kid. i was at my sitter's house and ended up falling off the stairs sideways and cutting my forehead open. even though that was totally my fault (just being a kid and tripping), and even though my sitter was the nicest lady, my mom stopped using that sitter. it wasn't safe to have stairs without a railing next to a column made of bricks. safety has to come first, and nobody should be made to feel unsafe in someone else's home. i haven't read this book in a while so i don't remember what was said, but it would have been nice to see some parents hearing about claudia breaking her leg and asking her girl not to go there to babysit. i know what happened to claudia was an accident, but it happened because betsy tampered with the swing intentionally, and who knows how many other booby traps there are.

How scary Oldhickory! Lol, to "who knows how many other booby traps there are" in the Sobaks' house. Betsy only went from McBuzz to (what was the name of the other joke company) instead of actually learning anything or stopping the jokes. I wonder what would have happened if Claudia had run into Gordon and Barbara BEFORE the Sobaks ever called the BSC. Like would one of the girls had the nerve to ask Mrs. Sobak if Betsy still was all about jokes? I doubt it, but could have bene interesting.
This book had so many potential fascinating extras that I would have loved to have actually "seen" or read about instead of just having the focus be on the jokes. It would have been cool to see Dawn eating dinner with the Kishis and her bringing Claudia junk food. I also would have loved to see Dr. Johanssen being a doctor/and or BSC "friend" (Client parent) by having her look in on Claudia. Heck I would have taken a few paragraphs that showed Claud's two teachers visiting her--something besides Betsy and jokes to create a better and fuller story.

^ I think I would have felt unbelieveably awkward if I'd been in the hospital and two of my teachers showed up!

^Definitely! Especially as a Claudia-type student. I just think in this fictional instance, it might have shown Claudia that her teachers are real people who care about her. For us, the scene, would have been interesting to read.

Ha, so I began reading this book again today....My older sis barged into my room while I was reading it, so I chucked it under the bed before she could see it. It's not that I'm ashamed, I just wasn't in the mood for her weird looks and eye-rolls, you know? Anyway, does anyone else find it kind of, well, strange how Mr. Pike and Mrs. Kishi went to get coffee together? (This happens during Claud's stay at the hospital.) It kind of made me double-take. I mean, I love parent interaction among the girls' families, and I totally wish there had been more of it but....hmmm.... I guess they were probably getting it from somewhere in the hospital, which isn't weird at all. However, the way it was worded ("We'll be back in a little while.") made me think they were going somewhere to get it....Again, nothing too wrong with that but I was like, "huh?" Whatever. Anyway, I also love the Dawn/Claudia moments in this book. Dawn was really sweet! Bringing Claud junk food and whatever. Also, their scene in the hospital. ("Don't worry, Claud. I mean, go ahead and cry. That's okay. But I know everything's going to be all right. I just know it.") Awww.... I love Dawn in the earlier books.

^I am guessing Rioko and John Pike, that is, I wonder if Claudia, Mal, and Jessi (and later Abby) ever realized that all three of their father's were named John? At least Mal and Jessi- Chapter 2's could have been spruced up a smidge by this lol. Back to this, it was worded a little oddly but I figured they went down to the cafeteria. It's too bad we never got to read about their interaction. I wonder if Mr. Pike suggested calling the Sobaks. I really wish we had seen Dawn both look for and then bring Claudia the junk food.

I remember in one of the other Claudia books (maybe Sad Goodbye) they were talking and telling stories and one of them was about a dinner party the Kishis had where the Pike parents were guests. I'm guessing that the Pikes were friends with the Kishis and that's how Claudia had started baby-sitting for them in the first place, even before there was a club. So I actually think that Mr. Pike and Mrs. Kishi going for a cup of coffee together is a nice bit of continuity, even though I'd never noticed it while reading this book.

^That was one of the stories. A sweet one at that. i would have loved reading about that happen "live" and particularly, the going out for pizza anecdote. I think it was so rare to read about the parents doing anything that to hear two of them got together for coffee made it stand out more.

^ Does the fact that we all seem to be interested in interactions between the parents mean we're getting old?

^Probably! I think I'm one of the "oldest!" Yikes. Maybe it also says something that I (and I think others on here, too) would have enjoyed reading more about the Sitters spending time with their families and at least in the case of Summer Vacation, the Stoneybrook Charges. I mean the kids' take on Camp Mohawk.
