^I love how she did the "mature" thing and then picked out those ultra sophisticated sunglasses.

^I think Stacey definitely should have tried for the jacket she wanted initially. IIRC it was some sort of jean jacket that she described as being very cool, but she thought her dad would balk at the price.

I have a small question about this book. Why did Ann change the plot of Stacey sitting for a racist family into this mystery book?

^Where did you hear that the plot was originally Stacey sitting for a racist family?
I think the real mystery of Stoneybrook is why there are so many racists living there.

BTW, I like in this book when Stacey sees a cute guy at the doctor's office and then gets embarassed because he sees her reading a Highlights magazine.

I remember reading somewhere on this forum about the orignial plot of this book beng different. I think I vaguely recall that it was supposed to be Stacey sitting for a racist family.

^I don't remember that, but I do remember #35 was supposed to be called "Stacey and the New Kids on the Block." It was advertised as such in the backs of some of the BSC books that came before #35. Not sure if it was going to have anything to do with a racist family, though.

^ It makes me wonder on why Ann changed the plot of Stacey sitting for a new family into a book in which the plot is a house that's being torn down being possibly haunted, especially when in some of the earlier books, it's written that Stacey and the New Kids on the Block was going to be released?

I checked the back of my books, and #31 listed #33 as Claudia and the Mystery of Stoneybrook and #35 as Stacey and the New Kids on the Block. Book #32 has them as what they ended up being. Maybe Stacey and the New Kids on the Block was going to involve Stacey meeting the band! Isn't 1990 around when they were popular Do you all think "The Mystery of Stoneybrook" storyline would have worked better as a Claudia story?

John Merrill says the following about #35 www.hingepepper.com/bscchap3.htm"Note: Book 35 was to be Stacey and the New Kids on the Block, the "new kids" being foster children. It was flagged in order to avoid confusion with the then-popular rock group and was replaced with this book 35 with a different plot. The foster children book finally did come out as Kristy and the Worst Kid Ever, book 62."

Hmm, then what about the story that involved Stacey and a racist family? Maybe they took the Mystery of Stoneybrook story from Claudia and gave it to Stacey, and then they took the story about the racist family from Stacey and gave it to Claudia, which was eventually used in Keep Out, Claudia?

That was something greer posted on this site, but I can't find anything to back it up, John Merrill's explanation makes more sense, and he is the type of guy to get to the bottom of something like that. I think a book about Stacey meeting the band NKOTB would have been awesome though haha

I totally see Stacey as a New Kids groupie. ;D I can't remember if I commented on this book or not, but... The ending annoyed me! I wanted something interesting to happen! Logical explanations are boring. I was rolling my eyes so much at the end of the book that they almost rolled right out of my head. The rest of it was okay though.

This is going to drive me NUTS...but why is there a #36 next to the title of the thread? The book is #35, and the number wasn't there in the earlier posts. (Not to mention that little detail would have stuck out like a sore thumb to my nitpickiness. )
