I'm re-reading this book now. I forgot about the art class Claudia held (Corrie Addison, and Arnold Twins, and other went). I remember thinking what worthless parents the Addisons are. I thought it was sweet and sad that Corrie gave her project to Claudia (I can't remember what project it was - I'm not to that point yet).

I thought the art class sounded like fun. I'm not too sure how believable it was that four year old Jamie would sit for an hour and a half. I know Gabbie had no trouble sitting the whole time and being involved, but she might have been written as older. I also thought the group was a little odd I think it was: Corrie, Marilyn, and Carolyn, Matt Braddock, Myriah and Gabbie, and Jamie.
Corrie gave her Nancy Drew puppet to Claudia.

That's what it was - a puppet. I was thinking it was some kind of mask.
Your group is right, too. I always bugged me, even when I was young, that Gabbie was really an 8yo trapped in a 2.5yo's body.

ITA about Gabbie. I think what made it worse was that Emily was supposedly also 2.5 and she could barely speak or walk! I'm editing this to say another reason I am so grateful to have become an LS fan and read all the books is that besides getting to truly know Karen and a little better Andrew as fuller characters, the same is also true especially for Emily even Sari, too in books like Karen's School. Marnie Barrett at "almost" 2 or 2, depending on the book, didn't have much of an active character role either. Then there, was poor Squirt, who varied in age between 14 months and 2 years (wasn't he at least closer to 2, once)? Even, Sari Papadakis, who varied between "a baby" and "2+" never had much notice except in "Claudia and the Great Search" when she played Ring Around the Rosie. Myriah, herself, at 5 1/2 came across as a mini adult in the making, too. :/

The only other thing I remember about Sari Papadakis is her with her mouth hanging open, watching Lou McNally flush a tennis ball down the toilet. Their dog Noodle was there, too, and I always pictured the two of them crowded up against the rim of the toilet in fascination - blech! It made Sari sound like she was no better than a dog, intelligence-wise! Then you have Gabbie who can sing entire musical scores, take art classes, and hold entire conversations while sounding almost like an adult.

^ Poor Sari, that really stinks.

That makes me feel sorry for Sari.
Well, to be fair, Emily is supposed to be language delayed and I think she had a lot of ear infections, so it's understandable that she barely speaks. And if she got sick a lot, it might've affected her walking, by causing her to learn how to walk later.
I don't like reading this book since I find it depressing. Despite finding it depressing, there were some things that I liked, such as Claudia being numb over Mimi since people have different responses to death. I thought that her feelings to Mimi dying were realistic.

I just reread this one and it really was well written. I liked seeing the different ways that people deal with grief in it which is so true in real life. I remember when my paternal grandmother died I balled my eyes out at her funeral, but when my maternal grandmother died I held strong for my mom who was a gigantic mess. I guess you really do have to take in everything for the situation.
The kids collage that they made for Mimi sounded awful though - such a nice thought, but I thought it sounded so ugly!

I completely agree about the collage! As I read it, I was thinking that Claudia would hang it in Mimi's room for the kids to see and then take it down.

^I hope the kids got to see their collage hung up and that Claudia left it up. Glue dribble mess or not, it was still a gift for Mimi. I wish we could have read about them seeing it and the Kishi family telling a guest about it. I just liked the idea of all of them wanting to do something concrete for Mimi.

It was a nice thought....however - a big blue blob of sticky mess....hehehe that sounds like a collage about my life!

^Aw, lol, young kids sure do love lots of glue and quite probably parts of the mural were blob-ish. I love the idea, though.

This has already been mentioned in the thread, but it's from 6 years ago so I'm bringing it up again...I know things can get a little politically correct in these books, but I think this book might contain the most ridiculous example, with Claudia calling Russ "American American." I was genuinely confused for a second or two when first reading that sentence, because I was like "Wait...are they trying to say he's white? What?" They couldn't have been that uncomfortable with the word white, since they call Mal white in this book's chapter 2. I'm just so confused by this terminology. Or was this intended to be an intentionally funny Claud-is-so-dumb moment?

I thought that Russ was Irish American? Isn't that mentioned in Crazy Peaches or World Cutest Baby?
In regards to this book, did anyone else think the Claud and Corrie storyline was kind of forced? Almost as if they wanted to give each sitter a kid they were close to and it was Claud's turn. They even go as far as mentioning that Claud feels close to Corrie like Stacey does with Charlotte.
Also, did anyone notice how they made Myriah sign for Matt (I think it was the time when Mimi collapsed in the basement in front of the kids). So Myriah, along with all her other millions of achievements, also knows enough sign language to communicate with Matt? Geesh. We sure know who Ann's favourite sitting charges are! I just finished reading Claudia and the Great Search and the Perkins girls were glorified AGAIN in this book. Ann repeats several times throughout the book how the girls are famous for memorizing and singing long songs. She also mentions how their parents have a friend who's an editor of children's books (probably Ann herself) who always sends them tons of books.

I did think that the Claudia/Corrie thing was a bit forced. Especially because we didn't hear of their great bond again, unless it was brought up way later in the series. Admittedly I haven't read a lot of the late books in the series beyond #85 or so.
I didn't remember Myriah signing to Matt. Perfect Perkinses! This may have been discussed elsewhere, but have we ever figured out their last appearance in the series? I know they mysteriously faded away at some point and we've speculated it's because the real Perkins girls didn't want to be mentioned in the books anymore.
