^ To me (a vegetarian), the idea of veggie chips always sound better then they taste. But then again, I'm not a big chip fan. If you want to try them, they have them at Meijer. They aren't any more or less expensive then any other type of chip.
I bet it was really hard for Sharon to send her back right away. I feel so bad for Dawn and Jeff sometimes. Not because of the moving, but the fact that they have to fly across a continent to see the other parent. Stupid Karen Brewer just has to go across town and she bitches about it plenty.

I love the beginning of the book where Dawn is eating veggie chips with Sunny. In fact, I'm eating veggie chips now, too! They're honestly not that different from potato chips, but they are delish. I love them too. I want some right now.

^I've had apple chips before and they were pretty good.

Thanks, cpenny. I might try veggie chips from Meijer even though I'm not a big chip fan either, usually. ;D Agree about Sharon feeling bad about sending Dawn back right away and about it being hard for divorced kids - but any divorced kids no matter how far they have to travel. As lots of LS books show, being a "two two" is not a wonderful thing.... I'm thankful that I can't personally relate.

I've never tried vegie chips, but they don't sound too bad! I can't imagine they'd be all that healthy though, particularly if they're made the same way as standard chips. Potatoes are vegies too, right?

^ Never thought of that but you're right. But Veggie Chips "sound" so healthy, right? After all, they're "vegtables" ;D ;D

Potatoes are not vegetables. They are a starch, which is different. Some people call them "roots" or "tubers" which is also correct, but for nutrition, they belong in the "starch and cereal" food group.

The veggie chips I get are from Target & Giant. The bag claims it's organic, and they're made of potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach.......and maybe something else. They look like regular chips, and the kind I get are ruffled. If you like potato chips, then you will like this kind of veggie chips. I try not to eat chips all that often, and I'm sort of becoming like Dawn -- buying lots of veggies, and I don't eat meat all that often, and when I do, I get lean turkey or fish.

^Try them sometime and you might be surprised at how good they really are. I read this book for the first time about a year ago and couldn't believe Dawn stole her father's credit card and flew off to CT! Girl's got a lot of nerve. I actually enjoyed that part of the book very much because I always like seeing the BSC girls do something "bad" or something that will get them in trouble, because it's more realistic than the way they usually behave like responsible mini-adults.

I read this book for the first time as an adult...I think if I had read it when I was younger, I would have been incredibly shocked at what Dawn had done!

I read this and I felt bad for Carol (and everyone else, but especially Carol). Dawn was so selfish in this book. Carol was nice to Dawn in chapter 11, all things considered. If I was in her position, I would have probably made Dawn feel a bit more guilty by asking her if she really meant what she wrote in the letter that she wrote in California Girls.

Ok, it's been awhile since I've read this one, and I guess Dawn's behavior is normal with how she reacts to the engagement news, but hear me out lol.
In California Girls, Dawn hates Carol with a burning passion and will take every chance she can to complain about her, or blame her for things (Claudia's failed date, Mallory turning herself blonde, etc). Then after Carol acts like an adult following Stacey's car crash, she says she respects and tells her dad she's cool with it if they decide to marry.
Does she go back to hating her in this book, or was it just a spontaneous reaction that made her decide to fly back to CA to stick it to them? All that aside, I did love this book when I first read it!

Well, I can understand Dawn not being thrilled about her father marrying Carol. That's normal. And yes, she does go back to hating Carol.
I think part of the reason Dawn flew back to Stoneybrook was so she could get attention. When she moved back to California, it was to spend time with her friends and family there. Now, while she's in California, Carol and Jack are engaged, Dawn's not going to be the center of attention so she flips (that, and her father's getting married to someone she finds annoying or someone who doesn't act their age).
I feel like what Dawn did was revenge on a subconscious level, since she said no when Jack asked he if she did it because she wanted to get even.

I like it when the sitters do bad things; I think I'm still shocked that Dawn stole her dad's credit card and went to CT expecting her mom to be like "O HAI daughter of mine! I missed you! Here's some tofu casserole".

Here's some tofu casserole". First off you just made me laugh out loud ;D Secondly, I agree I am still shocked that "level headed" Dawn would do something like that.
