i'm actually kind of surprised that carol came back. she put up with crap from dawn, and even though dawn was punished, it still feels like she got away with it because jack dumped carol when they argued about it. of course it wouldn't show us if jack and carol talked their issues out, but it would have been nice to see. i know if i were carol i wouldn't come back that easily. obviously jack is a dad no matter what, but i wouldn't want to be with someone who can't separate his relationship with his kids (any other people, really) from his relationship with me.

^I think all Mary Anne did was silently stew to "us" Wiggirl until her anger bubbled up and she threw that cup! Oldhickory, those are really good points. Carol really did come "right back" almost didn't she? She should have had a heart to heart with both Jack and Dawn. Jack certainly should have done so with them both, after apologizing to Carol bigtime. Did we ever read about Dawn earning money for those plane tickets? I think the whole thing was just "forgotten." :/

I remember in a Dawn mystery book (I'm pretty sure it was a mystery book) where Dawn says she had to work forever to repay her parents the money for the plane tickets.

^ I'm glad Dawn acknowledges that later in the series. Even in the mid-90's, two last-minute plane tickets could NOT have been cheap. I can't even image what it must have taken for her to pay them back on baby-sitting wages!

^At like $2-$3 an hour...it'd take forever! I'll (We'll) have to keep an eye out for the book mention. Thanks, Anzuhana.

^ Dawn taking forever to pay her parents back is what she said in the book.

This is frustrating! I tried scanning pages 7 and 8 of "Dawn and the Halloween Mystery," but it wouldn't "attach." I guess it was too big? On those pages, it tells us that it took Dawn "a zillion hours of baby-sitting to pay her dad back for that plane ticket." There is NO mention of the fact that Dawn actually had to pay Jack back for two tickets. One from CA to CT and the other from CT back to CA.
Edited to add (and this could also go in the "Claudia and Crazy Peaches) thread, that I realized last night that while Dawn had huge problems with Carol not "acting her age,"(from the beginning) but until Peaches got Claud in trouble, she thought her Aunt's carefree attitude was dibble.

Right but Sharon said to Dawn in this book (#72) that she (D) would have to pay her father back for two tickets, meaning the one to CT and the return to CA, it's at the top of page 93. I am guessing Sharon charged the return ticket on a credit card she once shared with Jack but post divorce, the two agreed to hang on to it, in case either D or Jeff needed something? Otherwise, maybe when Sharon said that she booked Dawn's return flight, she meant that Jack had. Confusing but, even then Dawn probably owed over $500 at cheapest!

Yeah, it's so true -- credit cards are easy to do stuff like that to. For example, think about calling pizza places. Sometimes they ask for the number on the phone and then the person who owns the card to be at the door. But how many times does the delivery driver *actually* check...

^Good points. Back then, as we saw with Dawn, security was much more relaxed at that time.

Is this the first book where we learn that Ryan and Erick DeWitt's mom is an actress (and a successful one)? Just when I think the writers couldn't fit in one more CA stereotype, they go and prove me wrong!

Didn't she mostly do commercials? At least that's what I remember from Dawn and the Halloween Mystery...

^ Yeah, I remember that, too. She could be a very successful commercial actress, I guess. There are always a handful of people that are in a ton of them, and while you don't ever know their names, you always recognize their faces as "that guy" or "that woman" from all the different ads.
