^Some of the funny parts went over my head when I was a kid -- I never got the "Trucker Drives Self Crazy" and "Pig Goes Hog Wild" jokes until I was reading the books as an adult!

^ I always thought those headlines made it sound like they were reading a tabloid.

^ ;D That reminds me of Karen's Newspaper when the girls get the ideas from the tabloids for their paper to make it "interesting". Where were those jokes in Phantom Phone Calls? Haven't read this one for a really long time.

Ah Classic Original BSC... It really is different isn't it? This book is so awesome, I love the fact Alan was doing it all... I live their code... Do you have my red robbon.... No the blue one! Haha.

I re-read this today as part of my Halloween/fall obsession. The red ribbon code is such a classic BSC moment. I liked how Claudia was concerned about her relationship with Janine in this book and was asking Mimi for advice on how to be better friends with her. There were a couple of nice moments between the two of them that I liked -- like when Janine admits that she hides candy in her room too! I HATED the ending when Trevor calls Claudia at her sitting job to ask her out to the dance. Like, of course the guy who Claudia likes & who she has never spoken to in her life has a secret crush on her all along. Maybe it was the clock tights or the bowtie with the dogs on it. lol. She was cute when describing her crush on Trevor, though. Mary Anne babysitting for David Michael and setting up all those booby traps is also a classic BSC moment for me. I always thought that chapter was funny. I love the descriptions of MA in this book.. she is always wearing kilts & blouses and her hair is in braids and Claud describes her as "super polite and a little old-fashioned." It makes her sound so cute & charming to me.

There are these occasional insanely "perfect" people who seem to have it all - good looks, good grades, good at sports, etc - however, they're usually impossible to take, particularly as teenagers. I have to agree with you there. I mean, I know no one has a perfect life, but a friend of mine is really pretty, has the highest marks in our year, has the highest records in sports in the school, but she is really, really nice. She is incredibly helpful when it comes to homework, and she is just a really friendly person. That being said, reading the BSC skewed my view of guys and relationships, seeing as I was one of the younger readers of the series. I remember reading the books when I was eight-years-old, and dreaming about getting myself a "Logan" when I was thirteen-years-old. It didn't happen, of course. Anyway, to stick to the topic, I don't remember a whole lot from this book, but I think I liked this one, seeing as it was one of the earliest books in the series, and the ghostwriters hadn't messed up the characters. I thought that the ribbon thing was hilarious, but I wasn't surprised that Richard had taken Mary Anne away from babysitting. He meant well, anyway. It seems like the kind of thing that he'd do. Other than that, I don't remember all too much about this book. Random Shy Girl

i love claud's weird little fantasy about trevor, where they discover a secret world during a school field trip. that's exactly the sort of weird fantasy i would have had.

^ I don't remember that but am now intrigued and looking forward to reading closer to Halloween ;D It seemed strange that they made such a big deal about Trevor in this book but he never showed up much in later ones (or am I missing something? ;D)

aln I was thinking the same thing about how Trevor doesn't show up much later on. I wonder if he's mentioned at all in the next book, The Truth About Stacey? Maybe something like Claud used to have a big crush on him but now they're just friends? Otherwise it's kind of odd, because she was pretty obsessed with him in this book. And since he was apparently secretly in love with her the whole time, you'd think that would have gone somewhere.

i remember later claud saying, "oh, trevor. he's always lost in his poetry" pretty dismissively.

And since he was apparently secretly in love with her the whole time, you'd think that would have gone somewhere. I think Trevor shows up in MA Saves the Day. Claud was "sort of" dating him (I remember a line about "Trevor is Claudia's boyfriend...sort of.") and when the BSC had the big fight and split apart for awhile, she was hanging out with him at school more. Personally I always compared my crushes to Trevor rather than Logan, but that's because I was always into darker-featured guys and less into blondes for whatever reason. I always hoped my crushes would surprise me back the way Trevor did for Claud. They never did. The red ribbon thing was actually pretty clever for 7th graders to come up with, although they clearly fudged it up due to nerves when they did try to use it (when Stacey calls Claud and is all, "Have you found my...did you see my....omg there's someone in the HOUSE!"). That one turned out to be the charges' dad coming home, but it was funny because if there really was a burglar "listening in on an extension," it would have clearly blown their cover. Wasn't there a part in that book where someone sets a "burglar trap" with a bucket of water on the top of the door and then it spills on someone's head? Or am I in the wrong book/series here??
