I reread this one over the weekend, and I enjoyed it. I think it was because I had only read this one once or twice before, and it definitely has the "old BSC" flavor about it. So, it was almost discovering a new BSC book that isn't as silly as most of the newer ones. Side note: Any idea who the two kids on the cover are? I thought Kerry and Hunter at first, but it says that Kerry has thick blond hair. Plus, the boy looks way older than 5 (not that that would matter....this IS a BSC book, after all). Then, I thought the girl might be Charlotte Johanssen...she's dark haired, and she was really concerned about Tigger. Still....doesn't solve the mystery of who the boy is.

Maybe Jamie Newton? Didn't a little boy get hurt in the book? I can't remember, it's been so long ago.

Jamie Newton doesn't wear glasses, and this kid does. Also, if you look really closely at "Charlotte's" face...she'd kind of got this devil-child, psycho expression in her eyes.

There are so many old references that you just know AMM's throwing them in because she likes them. It's like the girls didn't know anything after the 1960s.
I know! In Dawn and the Wicked Stepsister, Dawn gets all excited because there is a Fifties Festival playing on WSTO. I can't believe there were that many thirteen year olds in the eighties that liked fifties music! But maybe Dawn liked old music because she was such an individual.

I thought the boy was supposed to be that kid - can't for the life of me remember his name - who sent the fake ransom note.
This book also has the honor of having the funniest "Jessi's Black" introduction of all time! ;D

Something to the effect of "I'm going to be forthright, which I hardly ever am, and just say it: Jessi's black."

Could it be Nicky Pike? Isn't he supposed to have glasses? I've always imagined him with glasses , for some reason.

She is the cat lady to end all cat ladies. I liked how you could see the cat population of her household change by reading the "About the Author"'s. The earliest ones I remember are Mouse and Rosie, but by the time I stopped reading she had moved on to Woody and Gussie.

This was the first one I ever read, and for some unknown reason it was the book that got me hooked on the series. Reading it a couple weeks ago make me wonder what sort of twisted child I was. Don't worry, Jessi Ramsey, Pet Sitter was what hooked me strange kid, or just easy to please? I dunno. ROFL! Me too.. That was the first book I ever got along with Mallory & The Mystery Diary.

I just reread this one recently. I always want to smack MA for letting a tiny little kitten play in the yard when she's not there to supervise. This one kind of drags a bit... or a lot.

^ yeah, even I wouldn't do that, although my two adult cats have a cat door to go in and out whenever they please. I prefer it to kitty litter.

So I finally read this book for the first time...that line "I might as well be straightforward which I hardly ever am, and say right out that Jessi is black" is indeed classic. Wow, this was one was so boring. I really didn't miss much all these years. It felt like AMM wanted us to believe Kerry was just a misunderstood lonely kid; she wanted to prove something to her parents, she really believed Tigger would have been safer with her, etc. It didn't really come across, though. She just seemed quite thoughtless. She didn't even apologize to Mary Anne. The little kid with the ransom note was so creepy!

Who was that kid with the ransom note? It wasn't the awful Mel Tucker, was it? He seems to be the psycho kid who keeps popping up in the books. I have only read this one once and haven't been able to bring myself to reread. It was really boring and I can't stand Tigger anyway. My favorite part of the book was that Tigger was missing. I was disappointed they found him.
