Meanie You know, my first thought was that it was Mel Tucker too but I don't think his name was mentioned at all...

That does sound like something that would be up Mel Tucker's alley. I hate to think of how that kid grew up.

I'm planning to reread this one tomorrow so I will see if there is any reference to Mel Tucker. Agree with lyricalangel - he really scares me as a kid, let alone an adult. He was probably on the news for committing some terrible crime (though this isn't really a funny thought in light of recent tragedies in the US).

Just reread and no mention of Mel Tucker. I don't think the creepy kid is him because I think they would have said (they knew Mel by that time, right?) Still don't care for this book, probably because I'm not a huge cat fan so can't really relate to how MA gets so worked up over Tigger being gone. I guess I would be upset if something happened to my horse, but things are different with barn animals. Anyway, I thought it was a little strange (though really nice - wish I had good friends like that how the whole BSC got so involved with helping MA find Tigger. My favorite part of this book was the baby-sitting. The kids were all so cute. Loved how the Barrett kids were so worried about Pow and how Jamie played with Tigger at the beginning. Also really liked Gabbie wanting to sing Christmas carols. Hunter was cute, too, but the most annoying thing about this book was two chapters of "allergy talk". In all (probably because of the subject), one of my least favorite books of the series but I can see how a real "animal lover" might have a much different opinion.

^ I bet if someone stole your horse, they wouldn't keep him in a closet.
I think maybe the reason we were all thinking Mel Tucker sent the ransom note was because of his sending threatening notes another time. Perhaps he will grow up to marry Cokie.

I'm an "animal lover", but I don't particularly like this one. It's just too stretched out and boring!

I dont mind this one, although I though Kerry was a meanie for hiding Tigger, esp when she knew how sad MA was! I also thought Mel was behind the ransom note!

I just reread this one. It was okay. At first I thought that they had abandoned Stacey in this one when it mentioned that MA thought that Logan might have gone for Dawn or Claudia instead of MA when he first came to SMS, but it didn't include Stacey who is supposed to be arguably the "hottest" one? But it redeemed itself when it said that MA thought that the ransom note (pre-opening) might have been from her. In this one, I got the vibe that Logan was jealous of MA's affection towards little kids. I always had a soft spot for MA's crying. But not the girl on the front picture. Favorite part - Squirt posing like a muscle man for Jessi and Becca. So cute!! The thing I found weird was how all of these little kids were just coming out of the woodwork to play with Tigger. Where was their parents? And did MA tell Mrs. Perkins that she was taking the two kids out when she came over with Jamie Newton and picked them up on a whim? And that 10-year old kid. After the BSC "shook him down" but decided to let him go, I thought that it would be revealed later that he had Tigger all along. And not telling your dad about a ransom note?? - yet another example. And is there a connection between the "pebble that swelled to a boulder in MA's" stomach (I think) and the boulder where the money was to be left on? I dunno.

I agree about MA being so worked up over Tigger's absence. I believe she once said in this book that 'this is the worst thing that has ever happened to me'. I mean isn't the worst thing that happened to her is when she lost her mom? Oh,the baby-sitting chapters were my favorite too! Definitely! although I think Kerry was a meanie for hiding Tigger, esp when she knew how sad MA was! Me too. Favorite part - Squirt posing like a muscle man for Jessi and Becca. So cute!! Since MA doesn't really remember her mom, I can believe that she would say that about losing her precious pet.

^ I'm sure MA doesn't consider losing her mom "one of the worst things" for the same reason of not remembering her.
What gave you the jealousy vibe from Logan, mcpon? I haven't read this one for a really long time.

^I think it was because Logan didn't seem all that sympathetic towards Mary Anne when she was searching for Tigger.

^ That's what I assumed she meant, too, but am not sure. ;D I think that Logan's attitude was probably because he was preoccupied (like he said) but jealousy is an interesting theory. I just wondered if it was based on some particular scene.
