^i agree with you. I think Dawn had some speech about how neither one of them wanted to admit that they couldn't really share a room.
jamie learning to ride his bike... ugh. i want to erase this memory. if a ghostwriter wrote that book i think ann was being inhumane in making them write it.

Why didn't Dawn have a walkman, though? I think she wanted to listen to the 1950's Festival on the radio.

I really liked Dawn and Kristy’s talk in this one. Just wish Dawn would have gone away from it with the good advice/insight and decided to talk things out with MA instead of trying to scare her into giving up the room. That was so mean and foolish, I think. She should have just talked about things with her. But I think that’s where a lot of Dawn and MA’s problems come from is that neither one of them seem very willing to rationally talk things out and tell the other one how they are really feeling. I took Dawn scaring M.A. differently. I took it as one of those things that you do, not necessarily to avoid the conflict of discussion, but as a way so that M.A. would have an "easy out". This way neither of them had to admit that it didn't work out. I figured that Mary Anne knew, or figured out that Dawn was behind the "ghost", but she wanted out just as bad. It just didn't bother me much. I liked the subplot in this book a lot when I was a kid. I don't like it as much now, because it's SO unrealistic, and weird that the Pikes would have the BSC take care of them all. But I still like it better then other ones. -- like Jamie learning to ride his bike. Interesting theory and a good one on Dawn and MA. I hadn't considered this, probably because I get so annoyed with their communication problems. I can't relate since I'm really big on having to talk things out immediately. I also really like the subplot, realistic or not. ;D There is something funny to me about a sitter for the parents. ;D

Okay, I know I'm kind of changing the topic here, but I was re-reading this book the other day, and I found a big goof in here (although there are probably many more...it wouldn't surprise me).
On page 4, it's talking about how Richard and Sharon used to know each other, and it says "His [Richard's] parents died, Mary Anne's mother's parents died - and Mary Anne's mom died." In later books however, Mary Anne goes to visit her mom's mom!
Like I said, I'm sure there are probably many more goofs, but I just thought this was funny.

she might have just thought they died because richard never mentioned them to her, OR he lied to her.

^ That's what I assumed. In Secret in the Attic (I asked this on that thread, too) did they ever mention what MA thought had happened to her grandparents?

I am still on the hunt for this book. I remember loving it when I was younger.

I love this book! It's one of my favorites. Why were all the Pikes moping around on bed rest though? It's not like they were all sick. Most of them just had sprained ankles or a few broken fingers.
And wow, Richard and Sharon's honeymoon was really short. For some reason I thought they'd travel somewhere.. like Boston, or someplace. Where did Watson and Kristy's mom go on their honeymoon??

^^Hee hee. I think Richard and Sharon thought that they didn't really need an extended honeymoon, and wanted to have a family trip later on. Bet they were really disappointed that Mary Anne chose to sleep in their room when the entire family went to Boston.
Wasn't the reason why Elizabeth and Watson didn't have a long honeymoon because Elizabeth had to go on a business trip, hence the change in the wedding plans?

^ I think that was it with Watson and Elizabeth. Didn't they also want to take a family trip? I think that's nice to include the kids on the honeymoon as a long vacation. As long as they have a few nights for "romance" (Thanks a lot, MA ;D) Of course, I don't like to think of "parents" like that..... ;D

Parents are people too. I can't think of any reason why children should be brought along on a honeymoon. I really can't. I thought they (the brewers) just wanted everyone to stay in the mansion for 2 weeks with karen and andrew and get to know each other, which is the smart thing to do. Not drag everyone on a trip (where kids will be off schedule and cranky anyway) to bond. I'm glad that they did think of the kids though, because a lot of a time new "blended" families make the mistake of just being like "oh, everything will be fine when we get back from the honeymoon".. and it's totally not.
The term "blended families" sounds like a drink.

^ I guess I didn't mean so much of the honeymoon as a vacation after for the whole family to do something fun together. Agree that parents are people too (though I just don't like to think of it that way sometimes ;D)
