Maybe she felt like it wasn't her place to press...she didn't know Anna that well, and Abby's her twin sister, after all.

^ IIRC stacey told abby that the clothes sucked, but abby ignored her, in typical abby fashion. (that was a pun, i think. abby would be proud :] )
i actually liked the book a lot. i thought it was sweet how much abby cared about her sister, and how anna wouldn't let her in no matter how hard she tried. it's like seeing janine's side for the first time.

I liked that the book showed how much Abby cared for Anna. I thought that it was predicable that Abby brought clothes for Anna that she wouldn't like but I think that she had good intentions.

I don't like Abby but agree she had good intentions going into the clothes shopping trip with Stacey. I don't even necessarily think she was focusing on what type of clothing she was buying just that the articles were loose and comfortable. Then again, one of the reasons Abby annoys me is her ability to steamroll without thinking of others so maybe she did really think "I like these clothes, they are ones I would wear (I (She does) do wear) especially with scoloisis so of course, Anna will love them."
What I always do enjoy about this book is the winter carnival. The mint hot chocolate always sounds so good!

i reread again not long ago, and i couldn't believe how frustrated i was with anna. my sister and i aren't necessarily the closest (one of the reasons i prefer reading about abby over anyone else) so i can understand being shut out. it would devastate me if my sister straight up told me she didn't feel like my twin anymore. besides, you can't unbecome twins, so to say that was a little ridiculous on anna's part.

I remember reading this when the book first came out. I think I was in Grade 5. I remember a friend of mine also having it on her desk, and when I asked her about it, she said, "I'm a big Abby fan!"
This was one of my favourite Abby books. I like the January feel of it.
Also, I wish I would have taken notice from this book. I had never heard of scoliosis checks before. I wish I would have had one. I have a subluxation of my spine that was detected in my 20s. Since then, I have gone for two years of visits to the chiropractor. However, I don't think a subluxation of the spine is as serious as scoliosis.
Besides, no ones spine is ever "perfect".
Speaking of chiropractor -- I love going to mine now. There is something very healing about him and we have built a very special "paternal" relationship (which is nice because my father was never around).

My friend had scoliosis in school, but she only wore the brace at night.
I didn't like either Abby or Anna in this one. I thought Anna was totally closed off, but I guess I can understand that. That still didn't mean she had to be so mean to Abby. Abby was annoying b/c she just kept pushing and pushing her stuff on Anna - this makes me mad when people do that!

At first Abby really did have good intentions but then it became about her and got out of hand. Anna was trying to watch a concert that she was enjoying only to be bombarded by Abby. I was actually glad Abby at least respected Anna's wishes not to join the brace fitting appointment. I had thought (from prior readings) that she had. That made it a little better. I think Anna just had little experience telling her sister to back down and/or simply saying that's for you, this is for me. What I also thought was odd was that not one of Anna's friends made an appearance in this book. This should have been an Anna book!
Slightly O/T, what is a body stocking? From Abby's description it sounded like Anna was wearing two huge sheer pairs of tights.

A body stocking would be like a bodysuit made out of pantyhouse material.

Thanks Greer, and since the doctor suggested Anna wear a t shirt or something in between her back and the brace that makes more sense than just bottoms for the mold.

I liked this book. It's the first Abby book I've read. Abby was annoying in some parts, but I feel like she had good intentions, so it's okay.

I liked that she mentioned the Gloriana fiasco.

I think this is the regular series BSC book (excluding Little Sister and Snowbound) which features the most snow days. The winter carnival was not really a "great idea" since they have carnivals all the time and just replace the theme for the season or holiday around which is takes place. But I did like the sound of it and thought it was fun to read about.
I like Abby's outfit on the cover (for her) and I also like how you can kind of see the brace Anna is wearing.
Notice how many of the sitters get haircuts toward the end of the series? Mary Anne in the middle of the series, but Abby cuts her hair short in this book and I remember Stacey and Mallory both having shorter cuts as the series came close to the end.
The outfits that Abby chose sounded awful. That girl has no taste in fashion although I can see her in a lot of Lululemon. Thank Goddess for receipts and exchange policies!

I've been wanting to reread this one but I don't have my copy or the ebook. Boo. Didn't they drink a minty hot chocolate at the winter carnival? That always sounded good ;D

For quite a while, whenever I saw the cover of this book I would think Abby was wearing a low-backed shirt on the cover, and I would think "That shirt looks really good on Abby!", and then I would realize it was actually Anna's elbow.
