^ I think it's mentioned a few books later on, mentioning how she cut it but it's pretty much grown back to it's previous length. It could be Abby The Bad Sport but I'm not entirely sure. I feel like it's in a book narrated by Abby though.
Sorry, I know this is an old comment, but it's as soon as Stacey the Math Whiz. It doesn't specify how long her hair was, just that it's "grown out since a recent cut." That is ridiculously fast. I keep my hair pretty short and only really have to trim it every couple months.
This one is... not my favorite Abby book tbh. I remember liking it more when I was younger. It's not bad, just all right. I guess I just find it weird that that Abby finds scoliosis to be such a tragedy... it's cool that she wants to help Anna. I think it's written to be so obvious that she's being overbearing because it's a kid's book, but yeah, I still find it hard to believe that Abby didn't realize she was annoying Anna.
It blows my mind that Abby cuts her hair, though. I somewhat recall that, but maybe it didn't leave an impression on me because it didn't cause everybody in the club to hate her for a few weeks.
This line really makes me feel for Abby. It's so relatable: "It’s also the time of year when my dad died in a car accident, which is probably another reason I detest the season so much." My brother died in early February and that month is pretty rough for me. My roommate has had several family members die in April, so it's a rough month for her. Sometimes these books have pretty good moments of realism.
Tbh, I thought the "cool meter" theme of chapter 2 was... meh, but I really love this line: "Does having a boyfriend really have anything to do with being cool? I’m not entirely sure about that. I think being single and on your own is equally cool." It's great to have that in a kid's book imo.
I'm surprised that Abby bought Anna sporty clothes. You'd think she'd know Anna's tastes. Interestingly, Abby's fashion sense is rarely mentioned in the series. I always assume her to be more of a Kristy, but more willing to dress up. I always equate Anna's with Mary Anne's.
Copy pasting this because I thought it was funny:
(This was after Kristy called Abby to come over to her house on the snow day)
“Kristy’s had a great idea,” I informed her.
“Too bad,” Anna said as she headed out of the kitchen."
I love deadpan humor. And I would not be friends with Kristy. Just because my schedule is free doesn't me I'M free.
I love the idea of the winter carnival. It seems fun. I think part of the reason I liked reading about it is because it's already high 90s (UGH, someone save me. Why does Dawn love California so much lol) here. I want to try sledding. It doesn't really snow here, so I want to experience it.
I guess this one didn't leave much of an impression on me. Not bad, just not exciting. Probably a 5/10.
