Well, they *did* say that Lucy was a very good baby. Another baby that really impressed me was Laura Perkins. To get her to sleep, all Claudia had to do was put her in her cot, rub her back, then turn the lights out (This was in Snowbound). Um, sure Claud.

Speaking of which, I am currently reading Graduation Day (yay!) and typical Jessi has to write an article for the time capsule about racial prejudice. And there's a mention of discrimination based on sexual orientation! Also, about the baby thing. I guess it makes sense that parents with difficult babies wouldn't hand them over to some thirteen yr old girls to take care of, but these babies - Lucy Newton and Laura Perkins - didn't actually exist at the beginning of the series. They were new additions to the families of already-loyal clients and just happened to be sweet, content and perfect. Even the easiest baby goes through the joy of teething

^Ooh, I remember you saying you were looking for a copy. Sweet!
Weren't Ricky and Rose teething in Mary Anne + 2 Many Babies? Or did they have colic? It figures the only time we see non-perfect babies is when Scholastic is projecting their anti-teen pregnancy agenda.

aw Laura and Lucy COULD just be very even-tempered. My niece is 4 months old and seriously like, NEVER cries. She is so sweet and mild-mannered. I mean she's been sleeping through the night since she was only a month old. She gets fussy if she gets tired, but it's easy to calm her down and get her to sleep, so I don't find the well-behaved babies to be all that unbelievable.

Their project just seemed rushed to me, and not at all up to the BSC standard. And could Kristy's head get any bigger? Why couldn't someone else get 100%?

^ I guess I don't see Kristy's head as being all that big. In some instances it is but I like her confidence. I can use some of it ;D I always love reading about the babies and agree with sotypical that it's realistic that some are so good. Then there are others.... ;D I like hearing about the adorable, good ones most, though, so am glad this book makes it seem like most of them were like that.

^Agreed. I'd rather read about perfect babies that don't cry all the time than a colicky Squirt (BSC Remember)

^ Oh, I felt for Squirt in that one. Usually he was pretty cute but in that one... Reminded me of my little cousin who was a whiner even as an infant ;D I did like how Jessi was the only one that could comfort Squirt, though. I always loved reading the description of the babies in costume, too. Now I'm getting excited that the catalogs with baby Halloween costumes will be coming out soon ;D That's what this book always makes me think of.

haha that's funny. I don't like reading about crying babies cause it just makes me feel sorry for them (the baby, not the sitter and/or parent) and it makes me feel uncomfortable. So yeah give me a perfect little Perkin or Newton anyday!

Good point sotypical, although Lucy and Laura must have been teething at some point!

^ I never thought of that. Did any books mention that they were? What about Andrea? She was another one who always seemed so good, except I do remember her crying a few times. She might have been too young to start cutting teeth, though. Not sure how old babies are when they get their first but know age tends to vary. Speaking of Andrea, I almost thought it was funny how Kristy was the one who got the job helping get Andrea ready for the parade since she seems like the least likely one to do something "girly" like that. "Queen Andrea's" carriage sounded so adorable ;D

I don't know why they'd mention teething and stuff. I don't think anyone reading BSC books really cares about random babies in the series teething. I don't, anyway. I guess they could use it to show how ~wonderfully~ the BSC deals with an upset baby though.

Mmm youre right, they dont like to repeat issues too much, so the twins were prolly the only ones with teething issues, although the other babies must have teethed at some point!

Someone on the snark community mentioned how they would have loved to read this book narrated from Claudia's point of view - someone who's working on the float, and see how they cope with all the complaints and criticism heaped on them by the other sitters. Which is a great point - all the other girls do is sit around, talk about how much the float sucks, and play with the babies.
