I just re-read this one recently and I have to say, I loved Mallory actually standing up to herself to her PE teacher. That was awesome. The plot of the Pike boys behaving so well at the Hobbart's house while the Hobbart boys were terrible at the Pike's was pretty easy to see coming, but it was kinda cute nonetheless. Nice to think of the triplets as calm, respectful young boys for once, anyway.

Yeah I agree, the Brother Switch outcome was so predictable, but enjoyable none the less. I liked Mallory's shocked "Adam was interesting?" when Ben described what had happened.

I read this one rather recently, like a year or two ago, and just loved it. I agree that Mal standing up for herself was fantastic and also her internal dialogue and random comments were hilarious. So relatable.

I loved this book too. I never liked how all the other girls, besides Mary Anne, were all into sports in a way. That just made them less accesible for me, since I HATED sports. I could totally relate to Mallory in this one - PE was pure torture for me, team sports especially, because it would be my fault if we lost. I don't recall being on the winning team. Ever. I thought it was really brave of Mallory to just not participate anymore. I never had the guts to do that! Just stop playing! I was like: wow, way to go Mal! Word on the archery though. I wish they wouldn't have made her good at that - most unatlethic people aren't good at anything, so the 'there's always something you can do' moral thingy just sucks. Oh well.

There seems to be a lot of standing-up-for-what-you-believe-in stuff in the series. In School Spirit Wars, Mal benching herself, First Thanksgiving, etc. I don't know if I would have had the guts to do what Mal did, considering that she seems to hate the idea of getting detention.

I didn't have the guts to do what Mal did until eighth grade. I suffered in silence until then. Ugh. The weekly PE class torture.

I *never* had the guts to do what Mal did! Then again, there were lots of people in my high school who were dreadful at sports, so I didn't stand out *so* much.

^ I went to a particularly sports-dominated school. Ugh, the obsession with it was ludicrous.

For some reason my school was obsessed with wrestling. But we kept losing, so what was the point. Oh well.

Bumping this up because I just finished re-reading it. I really liked this book. God, Mallory's descriptions of playing volleyball and just dreading seeing that ball coming towards her brought me right back to my junior high school p.e. classes! I absolutely hated volleyball, and was as terrible at it as Mallory. Luckily we never had co-ed p.e. classes (except when we did swimming.. my 12 year old self was mortified at all those boys seeing me in my bathing suit!) -- and speaking of which, why on earth did they randomly decide that they were going to have co-ed gym for awhile? The brother switch was lame and boring. I can remember wanting to do something similar as a kid (my sister and I wanted to sleep at the neighbor's house and have the neighbor kids sleep at our house), and my parents and the neighbor's parents being like, "uh no way." Oh, but Mallory didn't know how good she had it, only having p.e. on Mondays and Wednesdays! We had it everyday. What did they do on the other days of the week?

I have to reread this sometime soon. Because about two months ago, I played volleyball for the first time since junior high. And I sprained my wrist. I refuse to play volleyball ever again, no matter what.

Not to mention hopelessly predictable.
Subplot aside, I loved this book as well. It brought back those hideous memories.

Mallory made volleyball sound seriously awful. I was really scared of volleyball... and then I played it and it was all right. Silly Mallory.

^ I don't think it was volleyball itself that terrified her. Probably any team/ball sport would've sucked just as much in her opinion. I know that was the case for me ;D

^ I don't know what is up with the other team always hitting it to Mallory all of the time. At my school, there were people who actually wanted to play. The people on opposite teams that actually wanted to play would just hit the ball amongst themselves and not share it. Eh. *shrug*
