I think it's hard to tell because people are so different when they're eighteen (or older) than when they are eleven. I was really uncomfortable around boys when I was in junior high and really wanted to go to an all girls school (it didn't happen though) but, by the time I went to college, I was perfectly fine with it. That could very well happen to Mallory too, especially since we both have multiple brothers.

^ I agree. I definitely think Mallory would choose a smaller school (and DEFINITELY not a party school), but I don't think she'll end up caring either way if there are boys or not.

Creative writing sounds like something she would take, but I also see her going to teacher's college after her undergrad since the writing field is very, very competitive. And by then, she is going to cringe at her idea of working at a bookstore as she had in one book.

^ I could see her doing something like that to pay her way through college and then deciding she wants something else long term.

You guys have single sex colleges?! What the?! How will people ever learn to interact with the other sex if they go through life segregated?

^ I'm pretty sure Australia has single sex colleges unless you were joking.

If I'm remembering correctly, AMM went to Smith College, which is women only. There are also a couple of single sex Catholic high schools in the Seattle area. People usually manage to find ways to socialize.

I know single sex schools exist, but I have the same opinion as Kylie. I don't think it prepares you for life in the real world very well.

I'm pretty sure we don't have single sex colleges? High school, yes. Universities, I've never heard of.

I'd say English lit, for sure, or maybe creative writing if she really did end up having a knack for it.

Smith and Mt. Holyoke are part of a 5-college consortium that includes men's colleges, so you do have a chance to interact with men. I think most of the major women's colleges in the US have a nearby sort of "brother" school that they interact with. I went to Sarah Lawrence, which was women's-only until the early 70s, and even though it was coed when I went there, we still had opportunities to go to dances at West Point (which was kind of bizarre, because I think it'd be hard to think of a student population more drastically different!), and it was "paired" with Princeton back in the day and there was talk of making Sarah Lawrence into kind of the Radcliffe or Barnard to Princeton's Harvard or Columbia.
Anyway, my point is, is that women's colleges do have a chance to socialize and in most cases take classes with men. I also think school is not the only place people interact with others--most people have jobs and extracurriculars outside of school.

I can see Mallory going to a single sex school, too, but maybe by the age of eighteen, she'd be more comfortable with boys. She is very similar to AMM, so it's possible she'd attend Smith.
I see her majoring in English and minoring in creative writing or literature. Or vice versa.

I'm at college right now, and I'm telling you, metres away is someone who looks EXACTLY like Mallory. She has masses of auburn hair, glasses and she's not particularly pretty (although her hair is gorgeous). It was surreal! Anyway, if this was real, that would be a co-ed college on the other side of the world. Although, weird thing, my country is one of the cleanest in the world and I think Dawn would be more suited to it than Mallory.

I think Mt. Holyoke was Ann's second choice of school or something, but I'd have to check her bio to be sure. That or Smith would be perfect for Mal since she seems to really value female friendship and being around smart and encouraging girls/women.
A friend of my sister's went to Mt. Holyoke, I remember her being really sweet and had curly reddish hair and glasses. A bit like Mal! She's a professor.

Holyoke was where her mother and grandmother went, I believe, so going to Smith was rebelling against family tradition.
