i also think it's telling that most of kristy and MA's fights stem from kristy wanting to be closer to MA, not the petty bullcrap that stacey and claudia fight over.

I am totally rooting for Mary Anne/Kristy rather than Mary Anne/Dawn. Mary Anne and Kristy had a stronger friendship than Mary Anne and Dawn. I thought it was pretty insensitive of Mary Anne to use Dawn to get back at Kristy. THEN all of a sudden Mary Anne and Dawn became besties, leaving Kristy behind. They always mention in the Chapter Two's that Mary Anne and Kristy are still best friends but they hardly ever show it. What was really insensitive of Mary Anne was that when Dawn moved away, she became closer to Kristy again! Poor Kristy...I don't blame her for feeling jealous of Mary Anne and Dawn's relationship. Kristy felt left out...and, well, I don't blame her. However, I thought Mary Anne's note to Kristy in Mary Anne and the Great Romance was sweet. I also don't blame Mary Anne and Dawn fighting all the time considering they ARE stepsisters and they live in the same house (although in Dawn's Family Feud Dawn, Mary Anne, and Jeff were sort-of...um, brats). Considering I don't like Dawn very much (but I do like a lot of her books), I don't like Mary Anne and Dawn as best friends.

They always mention in the Chapter Two's that Mary Anne and Kristy are still best friends but they hardly ever show it. I found that there were many moments when they showed Mary Anne and Kristy's friendship throughout the series. Although they may have been a bit understated, they were definitely special to me. One moment in particular, that I can think of off the top of my head, was Kristy and Mary Anne bonding (with Logan) at the beginning of Memory Garden and also Little Princess.

Yeah, their friendship is definitely shown better in the FF series. Their friendship was sweet especially in Mary Anne's Revenge

Definitely MA-Kristy. They were shown to care about each other, whereas MA and Dawn were mostly just rivals. I did like MA-Dawn at the beginning, but as the series progressed I found Dawn much less laid-back. If there'd been more consistency and development and less rivalry for the sake of drama it would've worked for me, but MA-Dawn mostly felt rather hollow.

I always preferred Mary Anne and Kristy. In a way, I kind of wish that Dawn was introduced a bit later in the series, so that we could see more of Kristy and Mary Anne's bond, without any jealousy involving Dawn going on in the background. I really loved the Kristy-Mary Anne interaction in Kristy's Great Idea, I always wanted to have a flashlight code as well when I was a kid.

I think Kristy and Dawn (and Logan too) share some similar traits and characteristics so it makes sense that Mary Anne would like both ... I definitely prefer the Kristy and Mary Anne friendship though as more often it felt like Kristy was proud that Mary Anne was becoming more independent, grown-up and assertive (although they did grow somewhat apart and related somewhat less to each other) while Dawn would more often seem resentful when Mary Anne went through changes and had different interests and preferences.
I think Kristy and Mary Anne growing somewhat apart was due both to Kristy being the president (and pretty much showing her no favoritism or leeway, although Mary Anne didn't expect it), Kristy living in a mansion and Mary Anne growing closer to Logan (which Dawn also probably didn't really like).

^^in FF Kristy was the most upset by Logan and Mary Anne's breakup.
I think it was that Kristy couldn't pop over the way she did when they lived next door to each and she and Dawn had a familial bond now, which was both good and bad. I feel like Mary Anne for closer to both Kristy and Claudia again when Dawn left for good.

Even though both are unhealthy, I prefer Mary Anne and Kristy. First, they had a long history together and thet had each other's back most of the time. I think Kristy and Mary Anne's fight in book 4 destroyed their relationship beyond repair. Mary Anne doesn't seem to trust Kristy as much as she did and Kristy lives far away.
Maybe they can become closer later on in high school.

Can I pick MA with someone else? Haha. I actually like MA and Claudia, although they also admittedly have not much in common. I think I'd see MA becoming best friends with someone else in HS, someone quiet and more similar to MA. Which I know does not answer the thread question!

I think Kristy and Mary Anne's fight in book 4 destroyed their relationship beyond repair. Mary Anne doesn't seem to trust Kristy as much as she did and Kristy lives far away. I disagree with that entirely. I don't see any lingering bad feelings between them once they made up. Also, it was Mary Anne...not somebody else...who called the emergency meeting near the end of Mary Anne Saves the Day. I doubt Mary Anne would have called that meeting to resolve that fight if she had not forgiven Kristy. That said, I actually see Kristy, Claudia and Abby becoming closer during high school and Mary Anne, Stacey and Anna becoming closer with each other in high school, a sort of three and three with the six oldest regular members. I still see Anna joining the BSC at least as an associate member in high school. I think I'd see Mary Anne becoming best friends with someone else in HS, someone quiet and more similar to Mary Anne. Which I know does not answer the thread question! What about Anna Stevenson? I can see Mary Anne becoming closer to quiet, reserved Anna during high school.
