In Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, Janine says she also hides candy in her room. What kind of candy do you think she's hiding?

Lol, I thought you were going to ask what kind of candy represented Janine. I guess that could be another poll. For some reason I can see Janine's candy-hiding may have been going on longer than Claud's and not just because she is older either. I think Janine began, possibly the same way Claudia did, by smuggling in a candy bar here or there before going all out. I wonder if she also stashed away chips, cookies, and other forms of forbidden foods at the Kishi house? To answer your question, Anzuhana, I think Janine would have a variety like Claud, but mainly whatever was her favorite. I think the two sisters shared snickers (Lighthouse Ghost) along with the taffy in this book but am not remembering any others. I do know they'd have done much better "pooling" their resources and money. I wish we had gotten to read about a joint shopping trip and/or making sure the coast was clear before dashing their purchases upstairs. This is O/T but since Janine's room was said to always be super neat, where would she hide her candy to begin with?

That actually gives me another idea, zoar. Thanks.

Well, I picture Janine buying the single serving packages at the check out counter, while Claudia goes for the big bags in the candy aisle. Much easier to hide a candy bar than a bag of candy bars.

^That is true. Janine might also be more prone to buying Kit Kat's or m and m's; candy that is a single serving size but offers a couple days worth of treats. That reminds me of another "question" probably more Claudia related than Janine. If Claudia truly hoards as much stuff as it sounded like she did and randomly "hides" it all, often not remembering where she put a certain item, how in the world does it stay fresh?! Maybe she buys those vacuum type ziploc bags? (I mean the ones that are supposed to be a fancier version of the regular kind). Funny thought. There was a Smurfs episode once where Greedy (the head cook and goody gobbler) shows us his stash of treats that are hidden in a small cubby space underneath his bedroom floor. I could totally see Claudia harassing Janine about creating such a space.

Maybe she hides it in her bookpack.

I see Janine buying boring candy, like peach rings. I hate peach rings!

^Haha, now I'm picturing her buying those Werther's butterscotch candies. I actually really love them, but they remind me of my grandpa and are therefore "old people" candy.

*Ohhhh I love those! We are trying a new flavor we are handing out at the Halloween parties at work. They are werthers caramel apple. They are sort of weird.

I like those also and admit to being a semi sap when it came to their old commercial with the Grandpa and Grandson. I wish the candies (with sugar) came in the smaller (sugar free) size. I wonder if Janine would stick to candy such as Werther's that were less likely to (quickly) melt and give off a tell-tale odor? I still can't believe Claudia was never discovered. It would have been hilarious had one day she came home (like in "The Mystery at Claudia's House) to find either her junk cleaned out or all out in the open "waiting" for her. Nah, I'd rather see her catch either her mom and/or dad sneaking a piece of whatever instead.

Haha, I was just talking about Werther's yesterday, I loved those!
Speaking of caramel apple, I could see Claudia liking those Tootsie Caramel Apple Pops.
