Hi In the BSC books it's always referred that Karen thinks Mrs Porter is a witch, but remember in Karen's Witch, Karen screams because she sees Mrs Porter flying on a broom, was it for real or was it as Watson insisted Karen dreaming/her imagination?

If witches really existed in LS, it'd be a very different kind of series!

^I am gigundoly glad they didn't and it wasn't. Still I did love as I've said before on here the 12 book "Trick" series by Scott Corbett that featured a good "witch" and two young boys who befriended her. I still can imagine Nicky or Buddy or even Karen had she gotten her hands on those book, enjoying them. As for Mrs. Porter, I did think that dream of Karen's was awfully creepy and it was a well written scene--made it seem "real." Maybe in that scene Mrs. Porter was really Morbidda. I do think she simply chose a more "unique" type of life-style and/or went along with some of the neighbor kids. I do wish Karen had been kinder to her and would have enjoyed hearing more about her brother--Mr. Wizard. I think that could have helped Karen see Mrs. P as more of a real person.

I like the Witch Family by Eleanor Estes; I can see Karen imagining herself into the same kind of scene.
I think there was a scene where she winked at one of the sitters? I definitely see her as being in on the joke.

Mrs. Porter did have moments that were a bit odd... I remember the evening Kristy first met Mrs. Porter she was given a bag with a dead rat in it.
