^The only thing I can think of is maybe the Meanies thought separate cabins (depending where exactly they were--I mean in terms of distance from one another) might be less threatening for a camper to approach them one on one. Or, maybe they really were "mean" and wanted to spread their eagles eyes even farther on the camp goings-on. I sort of doubt that but you never know. The van thing...my head is spinning just thinking about it. Maybe like the 13 years of 8th grade, size of the campers and/or the van were warped just to fit this book? I don't even get how even sitting on laps all the members managed to cram into the Junk Bucket, unless it was like a big old Thunderbird or Pontiac or something. I always imagined it a beat up sedan.

I never got the feeling that Meanies were really that mean. Maybe a little out of touch with younger people, but not angry and screaming and authoritarian all the time.

^ maybe it's one of those duggar sized vans? probably not a bad idea for a camp to have just in case. as far as the meanies living separately, i would guess that it was arranged that way so each of them can keep a close eye on their own half of the camp. if an emergency happened (like MA sneaking out) her counselor could run just to the next cabin instead of all the way in the middle of the woods for help. they work together and live together year round so a couple of weeks apart probably wouldn't be a big deal to them (might even be kind of nice), and with all the mentions of kids sneaking over and spying on them, it was probably for the best :]

I have a feeling that Camp Mohawk is based on the YMCA Camp Mohawk in Litchfield, CT. I know that YMCA camps are popular for kids in NYC, and I have a feeling that Ann would be aware or somehow involved in this all girls camp. www.campmohawk.org/#

I really wish we could read about Janine reading Claudia's letters. I imagine she has a red marker and goes through and corrects them!!
Also, one of my favorite things about this book is seeing the girls interact with other people not just themselves. I was glad that none of them were cits together. I wish jessi and mal were split but then we wouldn't have the Oreo bit. I really love kristys vulnerability in this one when she admits how she doesn't feel quite as old a all the other girls.

^Especially if Claudia ever asked Janine who she (J) was! We still should make a list of all the people Claudia asked that of. I wish we had gotten to read their thoughts as they read the letter. It really is too bad no one really wrote back in "real" time as relevant to the story just as an after-word. Oh yeah, weren't we going to do that one day? IIRC, we each were going to type/scan one letter and then "write" back? Anyone still up for doing that? If so, I can start a new thread/sign up. It could be a lot of fun.

maybe "who are you" is the reason she couldn't keep a guy like Will

I like when the other CITs try to pierce Mary Anne's ears, and she kind of uses reverse psychology on them, by acting like she wants it done.

That's an awesome scene!

Agreed! But what if the reverse psychology didn't work? Do you think Mary Anne would have gone through with it!?

I'd like to think it would be cool if she went through with it. It would make for a lot of awesome Chapter 2 stories and maybe another awesome story as to how Richard reacted when he saw!

^Oh for sure. How Mary Anne got her ears pierced at camp would have to be mentioned in all the Chapter 2s. I’m in beginning of reading this one and Jessi and Mallory’s bunkmates are awful. I think it’s one of the examples of racism at its worst in Stoneybrook. Something should have been done about it. I also think it’s weird that there are CITs for the 11 year old cabins. Are 11 year olds really going to listen to someone that's only two years older than them? It’s strange seeing Dawn supervising campers the same age as Mallory and Jessi.

^ I can't believe that Mal and Jessi didn't address the issue of being baby-sat at camp by people who are their peers back home. They DID address the fact that it was good that Dawn wasn't one of their CITs, IRC. That could have made for some interesting conflicts, though!
