Given the advancement's of today's medicene, I wonder how would Stacey handle her diabetes? Instead of giving herself shots, would she have to use the pump?
With more sugar free snacks avaliable, would Stacey be able to eat candy again? Or she will still have the severe kind of diabetes where she has to restrict herself?

I've tried sugar free or diabetic candy, and it tasted like a blob of glue stick. I'd rather go without. I think diabetes is still a very serious disease even with advancements. She sounded severe enough that the pump would probably be beneficial. I've never seen one. Is it noticeable? She might be too vain for it.

My dad's girlfriend has diabetes just as severe as Stacy's and it has a pump. It's not that noticeable since it goes under her shirt.

I think it's still pretty tough to deal with nowadays. I know someone whose 6-year-old was recently diagnosed and they have to be very, very careful with food. Counting carbs, calories, etc. It's been a huge adjustment for them.

Great topic! I think the pump would be useful, but she'd still have to be very careful.

I know someone who was diagnosed recently - he probably had it since he was born, but they caught it so late! It has been a huge adjustment. However, this was a little dude I used to babysit (he is a 10th grader now), and his mom has an app on her phone that tells her what is going on with his pump and when his sugar levels get off track. Then she calls and nags him, which of course he responds to negatively. I feel very sad for them. I did find it really cool that there is an app for that though. I think Stacey's mom would definitely have had it on her phone if she could have!

I'm 36 and my mom would still have it on her phone if I needed it! I imagine it would be a semi-nightmare for teens with overprotective parents.

When they re-released the first few books and updated some things, in The Truth About Stacey she mentions that she uses an insulin pump.

^ That's cool! I've never read the re-released versions of the BSC, so I never knew Stacey used an insulin pump.

Does it say what Stacey thinks of the pump? Does she consider it convenient?

Did they have to edit out every "She gives herself shots, ewww!" in every chapter 2?

Today, she is using an insulin pump. And actually, she can have sweets on a limited basis. People with diabetes do not have to avoid all sugar and don't have to avoid all sweets. I know lots of people with diabetes, including Stacey's kind and they can all eat an occasional candy bar without keeling over.

Not really...and anyway, by now Stacey would not be vain, especially as an adult. I've had some sugar-free candies that are pretty good.

The new show did a pretty good job of this. She's able to eat some sweets in moderation in the wedding episode. I don't know why that version of the character would bedazzle what she's using (I think it's the pump?). Stacey would make it black or white so it goes with everything.
