I’m watching an episode of the Golden Girls (“Love, Rose”), and this one features Dorothy and Blanche writing letters from a fake man in response to Rose’s personal ad to make her feel better—similar to Claudia and the Perfect Boy. Where else have you seen a plot from one of the books?

There was an early Home Improvement episode, after Mary Anne's Bad-Luck Mystery, that had a very similar attitude to and dialogue about chain letters.
The Secret Life of Mary Anne Spier seemed pretty derived from The Simpsons "Christmas Special", especially the sense of really needing the money, going behind the scenes of training for and playing Santa/working as mall holiday workers and the fear of being discovered.

You mean Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire. There were a lot of Christmas specials, this was just the first full-length episode to air in the first season. Although to be fair, at least they didn't need the money from overspending like Mary Anne. Marge just thought removing Bart's unfinished tattoo was more important than the Christmas money and Mr Burns took away the Christmas bonuses.

Marge just thought removing Bart's unfinished tattoo was more important than the Christmas money and Mr Burns took away the Christmas bonuses. I always thought The Secret Life of Mary Anne Spier was rather funny, yet touching. Sometimes, throughout the books, Mary Anne and Logan's romance and even their breakup reminded me of another romance in another series, Fabulous Five where Beth Barry and Keith Masterson date for a long time. Keith is sometimes possessive and often gives Beth a hard time about her activities. Beth even has dark hair and brown eyes like Mary Anne and most of the other BSC members. Although Beth is not shy, like Mary Anne, she struggles with self-confidence issues. Ultimately, like Mary Anne and Logan, Beth and Keith break up.
