^ How very Flintstones-esque! I haven't seen it happen myself. Wouldn't that be a lot of work for the dentist's office? Clean teeth and now we also have to make necklaces!

By the way, has anyone ever heard of getting a tooth made into a necklace, like Karen got at her appointment? When I first read this book as a kid, I thought it would be so cool to have a tooth necklace. I'd never heard of that! My mom kept our baby teeth in a little box ;D

Sounds like a fashion trend for poser-punk kids, tooth bling!

Watson really should have just told Lisa himself about Karen's tooth. I get that he may have thought if Karen told him she would confess to her mom, too but when you are 7 and afraid of a doctor that is a hard thing to do. I also was angry with Lisa for punishing Karen for hiding from her dental appointment. I know this bothers me just thinking how I would have been treated at such a choice. Neither Lisa nor Watson seemed to care that their daughter truly was frightened. Surely, Karen could have met Dr. Celenza (or yes consulted with Claudia) before her appointment. I wished we had gotten to read Karen's letter and what Dr. C thought of it. I won't get started on my feelings on the shot. I will just say I'm glad Karen's main fear seemed to just be the unknown as opposed to specifics! I was sorry to read about all of you that had dental and or medical trouble. I have had my own negative experiences with both doctors and TMJ specialists. I do wish medical professionals were more kid and even adult friendly in a genuine way, like my dentist now. I don't think I'll ever be a doctor fan but hey my teeth are in good shape.

Sounds like a fashion trend for poser-punk kids, tooth bling! Lol! I completely sympathize with Karen. I remember when I was a child I would always hope my parents would forget the appointment.

Re: the tooth necklace, once when my dentist pulled a couple of my baby teeth he gave me a necklace with a plastic tooth on a string. The tooth opened up (it had a hinged lid on top) and there was enough room inside to keep a couple of real teeth. I still have it at my parents' house! I think the Tooth Fairy gave me money for those two baby teeth even though she didn't take them.

The tooth fairy gave me something for the tooth I lost in a friend's yard, too.

I liked the psychic aspects of this book reading all the daily horoscopes since it can be very entraining to read and all the predictions that Karen made when she told people their futures. I think I liked the psychic subplot more than the toothache storyline. Hi there, I totally agree with you! I definitely go with the psychic subplot here too. This was very interesting for me and I learned a lot about her personality. Mila

I thought this book was super popular based on the number of thread pages… It’s 4 pages of dental problems, lol.
Karen got a same-day appointment where the dentist did all of the exam and x-rays himself. In the real world it would have taken weeks to get in, the assistant would have done everything, and then he would have spent 30 seconds with her. Same with the oral surgeon. You miss your appointment and it could be months to make a new one.
I get that Seth was nervous and not thinking clearly, but it cracked me up that he called the police and was all “Is this the police??” They say that when they answer the phone.
It shocked me that Karen owned a Ouija board! Lol. It’s so mature, and I would think that at least one of the parents would be against it. (There were parents out there who protested things like The Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel because they were witches.)
I also liked the talk about her will. I thought that it was interesting that she left everything to Kristy and made her the executive of it. I didn’t like that she ripped it up later. Not to be morbid, but anyone can die at any time. (I have thought about writing my own will for a few years now, but since I have no dependents I’ve never bothered. It will still be a mess for my family if I die, so I should put more effort into it.)
There are so many soft foods in the world that Seth didn’t need to puree her dinner in the blender. 😛
