I really felt for poor Karen in this book. All she really wanted for her birthday was for her parents to get back together, and, as unrealistic as that was, I sympathized. I really liked the end where Lisa and Seth actually go inside the Big House to pick her up and her whole family is together, even if it's just for a few minutes.

^ Totally agree with feeling for Karen and also liked the part at the end. I know Watson and Lisa getting back together is unrealistic but I never could see why the adults couldn't just put the kids first for once and all spend an hour in the same room for a birthday party. I think it was pretty selfish that "it's your birthday, Karen, but we are more concerned with Seth and Elilzabeth's feelings." Another example of the problems divorce can create for kids I haven't read this one for a while but do like it. I always get a good laugh when Seth sees Watson and Lisa's wedding album open and is like "what???"

Yeah, that part was pretty funny. ;D
Another thing: wouldn't Elizabeth be more uncomfortable around Lisa than Seth? And Seth more uncomfortable around Watson than Elizabeth? The whole first husband/wife thing? I thought it was strange that Nannie said Seth and Elizabeth would be very uncomfortable around each other.

^ Thought that also. And I thought it was all very dumb because Seth is always going to pick the kids up and drop them off and talks to Watson and Elizabeth then. Actually, I never sensed that they were uncomfortable around each other. And really.... would an hour be too much to ask to put aside selfishness for your child (or stepchild)

Much later in the series Seth went to Boo-Boo's funeral. Figure that out if you can. Dude went to his wife's ex-husband's cat's funeral. Awkward.

I had forgotten about Seth going to Boo Boo's funeral. Now that definitely would be awkward. Either they decided to start getting along better for the sake of the kids by that book or they cared more about the pets than their own child ;D

I also felt bad for Karen in this book. It seemed like a very realistic wish for a little kid would want.

It was a in one of the mysteries....Stacey and the Fashion Victim, I think. Actually, I haven't read that one yet, but I remember reading the forum post about the book and Watson and his funeral for his cigars are mentioned. ;D

^ It was me who posted about it, I think ;D They have a "smokeout" where the kids get their parents and other adults to sign pledges to give up their cigarettes/cigars/etc for at least a day and Watson decides to quit smoking his cigars. Since they are an "old friend", he decides to have a funeral and bury them in a little box in the back yard and makes everyone in the family - including Kristy who has to wear a dress, I think ;D - dress up and attend the funeral. It is one of my favorite parts of Fashion Victim.
