I ran across a very similar scene in a novel several yeas after I'd read Karen's Tea Party.

I know. Why would a bunch of boys want to go to a tea party anyway? I loved this book and liked the idea of a charm school for Karen and her brothers. Too bad Sam couldn't go though. His table manners were the worst! lol

Sam probably knew better and just didn't do it. Why Elizabeth wasn't more insistent, I can't say.

Yeah, Elizabeth had a way of being like that. Pretty much letting the kids get do what they wanted.

I was reading this the other day, and when Watson tells Karen she's going to charm school, he says "and you will learn some manners." From the way it was worded, he might as well have added "because it's about friggin' time." I'm sure that's what he was thinking. Hey, Watson, did you not get the memo that as Karen's parent it is YOUR job to teach the girl some of these manners you deem so important? My god.

I would have loved going to charm school, even though I think I have good manners. It seemed like fun.

Methinks this book was written just so that a charm school plot could be used in one of the books. I mean yes, kids at that age need to learn manners and yes they can be dirty and sloppy (ala dirty fingerprint sandwich ) but Karen was supposedly the "lovely lady" and always trying to have good manners. How did she go from that in one book to being disgusting in this one?

She was just trying to copy Sam, David Michael and Andrew. It was basically monkey see monkey do.

I think the Charm School idea is used over and over... I'm about to read a SVT book with a charm school in it.

I thought it was a fun storyline. I think there could have been a charm school in Watson's neighborhood, after all, he was a millionaire. I don't think we really get a sense of how wealthy Watson and his neighbors are from LS, whereas we might get a better idea from earlier BSC books, especially "Kristy and the Snobs."

Yeah, I agree. It's like everytime Karen wanted to do something the boys always wanted to be apart of it. I noticed that througout the whole series.

This book made me really want cinnamon toast with the crusts cut off.
I thought this book was okay. Maybe because I am a guy, I have different feelings about it (maybe it was too gay -- even for me! haha)

I loooove the cover, I wanted a pretty dress like Karen's then with the fancy clip, and those yummy cookies and brownies, especially when they were oven fresh!
